An alpha unit will be at AXPONA. Those of us going can hopefully get answers to all our questions.
As in shipping dates and cost?
Hopefully. ![]()
At the risk of sounding cynical, I’m not holding my breath …
p.s. No malice towards PS Audio intended
For those going to Axpona, enjoy the event and keep us posted of any news or updates on the Airlens or photos of the prototype. Thanks!
Welcome @jrosella !
Welcome and great idea.
I heard it in the PS Audio room, and spoke to Chris about it. It does use the latest Converse Digital core chip. As there was no other streamer there I can’t say how much better it sounds than anything else like that, but while I was listening to the FR-30 the music came from the AL, and then they popped over to the PST for other tunes. To me the “quality” of the sound didn’t seem to take a hit when it was coming from the AL, if that helps anybody.
Oh, Paul is hoping beta will be in about a month.
If you were to listen to more streamers, wouldn’t they need to be attached to the same system for the test?
Yes. It was my poor attempt at ironic humor. ![]()
Does anyone know, is there a way to transmit HQPlayer NAA over one of those Converse Digital cores?
Maybe someone can ask if the Airlens now got the originally planned parts’ supply or if they had to change anything due to the shortage?
If I remember correctly, Paul said they have the parts in house to build the 100 beta units. They delayed doing so until they had a secure parts supply for the production parts. I have no idea if that means they bought all the production parts that they thing they will need or simply have a commitment for the parts. I am not sure that it matters if there were any part changes as long as the beta units include the update parts.
Originally planned parts.
I can’t find this “digital core chip” on the Converse Digital website.
Any other info ? Full list of sample rates and supported protocols?
Try this page: Conversdigital
I’ve been assuming the CDM4140 module. Scoll further down for more specs.
Still wondering if there is anyway to feed this thing NAA @ DSD256 from HQPlayer to the AirLens.
@jamesh Any clue?
Yes I’m aware of that page (since the original DirectStream Bridge II card made by same company…)
I am looking for the mentioned “Digital core chip” that was mentioned…
Sorry. That was just terminology on my part when posting. Since I suspect there are other supporting devices in the AL, I referred to the Converse as the “core” device.
Hilarious and wonderful. There might be hope for the AirLens yet! I just loaded Kazoo… which Linn says won’t be on the app store forever… and can push DSD Surround from Plex with DLNA turned on to my exaSound DAC fine, without needing anything else. So no BubbleUPnP server loaded.
The new Linn app works too, even though it is more fussed about not being able to find any Linn kit on my network. Was still able to drive through that to play DSD tunes from Plex to my exaSound S88.
