I don’t think Qobuz on its own can play to anything other than the local machine it’s on. mConnectHD has a Qobuz interface built into it. You can login from there to play to any UPNP/DLNA capable device.
Qobuz has released an SDK for something similar to what Tidal has and maybe in a few months we can get that up and running. In the meantime, use the Mconnect app.
Yeah I reinstalled mine
Thank you both!
It would be interesting to hear the theory behind this from Paul, how it can play a role if this signal is finally just transferred “by air”.
No implementation of any technology is perfect.
Yes, that’s clear, it would need a bit deeper insight what’s done and how it prevents what exactly. We don’t seem to get to such levels anymore from PSA side.
I was just confused when on the one hand something is galvanically isolated by a complete cut of physical connections and on the other hand we read that a LAN connection can still produce ground loops compared to Wi-Fi and noise on the lan path gets into the streamer.
This means there was either something misunderstood, confused by the sender or receiver or the story of the concept was incomplete or too positively presented.
The unit works great sound wise and I even didn’t expect that all input topics don’t matter anymore (I also experienced it with another LAN optimizing device), but I’d mostly like to understand. The Innuos guys usually can explain all the contexts pretty well and have support in this regard, I might try there again.
I understood it separates the signal output from the signal input noise and power supply noise.
There I must say, you agree to yourself , as I didn’t say this, but yes, it’s just one factor, but the one PSA focused on more and different/more elaborate than others, while Innuos doesn’t focus on galvanic isolation at all (as they told me at the time), but on prevention of power supply noise from start plus power supply optimization of the LAN path with audiophile switches etc. as well as hard disk noise optimization. At this time, they just had servers and said, when they come out with a pure streamer , it will just have a good psu and rely on other measures taken by the owner to prevent other noise, but won’t galvanically isolate. They said one usually focuses on the one or the other, depending on price level. They assumed people who want to care more than others, buy their servers + network optimization stuff.
Regarding power supply, PSA made a compromise with a cap optimized switche mode one. I think we might get an insight how different concepts compare on equal price levels after first reviews…but on the other hand, as we all know, all reviews will be very positive and we will know nothing more at the end.
I guess it is as always, the PSA unit will compete up to quite more than its price level, but something costing double or triple will still be a bit better.
HD is for iPad being widescreen. That’s the only difference between 2 and 5
Does the volume control work with spotify connect on the airlens?
I tried to clarify the same for Jriver (so far I found no way, but it worked with Bridge II), but no chance of support, you might have more luck with the Spotify question.
Hi all, I ordered my AirLens on Nov 21. After no shipping notices for a few days and 1 email and 2 calls I finally got word that it was delayed, even though at the time the site mentioned “Same Day shipping if ordering before 2pm”, it seems my order didn’t ship for 6-7 days until after that. A bit of a shame cause I was hoping they would keep to their same day shipping advertisement on the site and that was a big reason why I ordered at that point, trying to show it off for family during the Thanksgiving break. Oh well.
Setup was a pain, perhaps I should have researched the WiFi setup being relegated only to WPS (WiFi Protected Setup) so I could check my router before hand. This is apparently out of date technology with security flaws. I had to find an old router from 5-6 years ago and do the WPS setup with the same SSID/password on the old router to pass along that info to the AirLens so it would connect to the new one. A nifty trick and good to know for anyone else who is running Eero or other newer wireless routers in their homes and plans on using the wireless of AirLens.
I’m trying to setup my Roon account, as I never had one prior to AirLens. The manual says I can go to ‘roon.link/partner/psaudio’ to start my 60 day free trial or scan the provided QR code. I scan the QR code and register for an account and am prompted to start my 14 day trial. I navigate to the URL and create yet another account thinking maybe the QR code went to the generic sign up page and am still prompted to start my 14 day free trial. How would I get the 60 day free trial? Or is this a mistake? EDIT: The coupon code is found within the packaging, it was just separate from the manual and product catalog buried deeper in the box. I’m in the wrong here
For now I’m listening with Spotify to my Directstream Mk1 but I’d love to hook up Qobuz to Roon and get cooking. Sound is very good so far with Spotify!
The shipping I have no idea on your delays, but 100% agree on the wifi thing. They did not want software build so they went the way they could w/o. Most things now-a-days have a software way of connecting local like bluetooth etc and then update your wifi settings. Or even import off a USB would work. Heck even a text file formatted a certain way in the root named wifi.txt would be better way. I did not need when I set mine up. In the end I sent back as it was not improvement over my other streamer I already had with the MKII DAC. if you have the MK1 you will get a big improvement as its I2S with isolation in the Airlens together are a great combo.
Mine was the easiest WiFi setup of any of the half dozen streamers I’ve owned…
Easy usually = not secure. in this case that is true.
Yea I just hate that it’s the only way to setup wireless. I am getting the sense that AirLens is not a fully baked product from the totality of an awesome user experience for a wide variety of users, but it seems the focus on sonic quality is first and foremost. Hopefully I’ll get to experience that once I figure out what the deal is with the Roon free trial being advertised.
I was very tempted by the Eversolo and the iFi Neo since I think those are two streamers that have the i2s pin out compatible with the DirectStream Mk1. But the Black Friday week sale was too good to pass up and the ease of use / synergy I was expecting with pairing PS Audio products won out.
Ah what was the black friday sale price for AirLens?
Yes indeed!
EDIT: My mistake, I didn’t read your comment fully. $1599 is what I saw.
1500 I believe
I decided against buying the AirLens - in part because of the limited setup and lack of web page for firmware updates etc. Even my Raspberry Pi streamers running Roopiee have a web interface - I think this was a mistake by PS Audio with this product. I am sure it sounds great but not enough to overcome the UI issues at the price
