Wasn’t it announced as over 7k’ish?
I don’t know. It’s been a while since price came up. I imagine with the price of bits and pieces changing frequently and often, the price may be different then what we may have read months ago.
Judging from the prices of three recent products, FR30, FR20 and BHK600, I am expecting the price of DS II to be at least $10k.
I am hoping (hope is not a plan, I know) the MKII will be closer to the MK I’s original MSRP and the big ticket price will be reserved for the TSS DAC.
Here’s to hoping…
I would be glad to be wrong about the price. I am definitely with you.
Looks more like $8K best we know at this moment.
Based on the significant price increases across the line since release not possible. They are no different than the other audio companies faced with parts and labor price increases.
Thanks Paul! My DS is only 3 yrs old and I will wait a few more years before jumping on DS II. Meanwhile I look forward to AirLens satisfying my appetite to upgrade.
So that’s a confirmation that Airlens will work to its full specs with a DS I.
That’s what I am hoping. But I don’t see why AL will not work with DS.
The AL is an endpoint. It’s not going to care about where you send the output. It could be directly to the DAC, or maybe a DDC that converts I2S or Coax to USB.
I still can’t believe the. DS DAC Mk II will be 8k. Rules me out. Will stick to my mk I
Yep, A “clean” digital output that a DDD or DAC can receive is it’s raison d’être.
Following Ted’s progress in a few of the DS threads will help you understand the cost. The MKII is going to be significantly better then the DS. There’s years of lessons learned being reflected in the new design.
Also, don’t forget that unless something changes, there’s several years of free upgrades to look forward to from Ted. He’s already hinted at some of them. The last few Mountaintops were like getting a new DAC each time.
It appears the Airlens will have no DAC. Is that correct? If so, a bundle option with the Directstream DAC would be nice.

I bought the DS DAC around a year ago. Dunno if they’ll give me a full upgrade price…
I can’t remember the rules around credit. But, in the back of my mind, I think if you are within a year you may get full credit.
You should verify with @jamesh
Precisely what makes the PSA DAC’s so appealing. A renowned coder/designer dedicated to making the conversion process “do no harm” and we get future upgrades without charge. How many mountains are in Colorado anyway?
Paul, any further notion on the price of the AL?
