PS Audio Moving Coil Amp

Hello, I’m New to this group, so I hope Im going about this the right way. I recently purchased a PS Audio Moving Coil Amp with separate power supply and interchangeable resistors to set the load on the cartridge. I am looking for a copy or download of the original Owner Manual as well as any other literature on this unit. I also own a Phonolink II, i believe it is a II. I would also link to see any literature on this unit as well. Schematics would be nice too!!! Thanks Everyone

Welcome, Ken

I hope someone can help you out.

Thank you

Ken, did you have any luck finding the manual and or schematics? I have a beautiful Phonolink II that looks like it just came from the factory, but given it’s 35 years old now, I’d like to replace all the caps and a schematic would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Sean

Hello Sean,. No I never did find a schematic,. I also have sold the amp and moved on. I am using Denon carts, 304, 305 and the like, I need a bit more gain then what I was getting out of the PS Unit.
Good luck with your unit , I hope it performs to your expectations

Thanks for replying back!

From another forum, i was searching info, because I have a brand new PS MC2 second version, never used step-up without the power supply.

From what i have learn :face_with_monocle: :

  • I lose money on ebay [mine brand new, no transfo], will send it if free to museum..! :face_with_head_bandage:
  • not all seller are honest
  • there were 2 version of the MC step-up
  • modern phono stage, especially the PS stellar [recent purchase] blew aways everything I have ever heard.
  • I will not go step-up again [because it will boost all the good and the bad (hum, hum, ehum) without any difference, so “it like “a date night, when the sun appear, it’s there you see the real thing” ]
  • there were 2 versions of this MC [1- Walmart sort of transfo and 2-the huge transfo]
  • I have learn, that the transformer for my version is putting out 27.5 VAC. There’s no markings on the transformer, it’s quite large, likely a couple of amps worth of current, although that strikes me as way over-kill [like everything Paul did! :innocent: ] !
The DC supply, measured on the first filter cap, is an even 36 VDC. :star_struck:

hoping it will help!

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

PS if could not afford new preamplifier, just go mm, till you can, save your money for that, it worth every penny, and it is less trouble [btw I was using a f. Box 5 in mc for a year, it was better than nothing],

And before I purchase a brand new PS phono-stage, I use the box 5 in MC. and before before, it was a PS preamplifier all in 4.6 [you could find 5.0 used, should be better than the 4.6 they said].

And before the Box5, I have the PS 4.6 that I cherish, but the 4.6 have induction problem that was buzzzzing me when I hook digital to it, it liked internet so much, that it catch all noise from the internet :frowning: but that’s another story!!!, the 4.6 is the one that made me discover the “harmoniest” of PS Audio sound! and…… Open a brand new Quest for better sound!

now staking money for a brand new or refurbish “Stellar gold preamp” or a “Bk preamp”, I expect to be there in 2027! but hey that’s my journey!

For now a clone M7 [12ax7] in the winter will do and a passive preamplifier will do for summer!
