I have been in Denver all week for a work users group. I decided I will not be this close any time soon so we took a trip up to Boulder for a visit to the PSAudio shop and do a tour. I cannot say how welcoming their staff was. Caleb too us to pretty much every room and all the staff stopped work to chat. Chris B gave a great run down on how all his designs worked and the history behind the tech. Got to see the parts and where they were made. PSAudio does a great job in trying to keep as much as they can to be American made. Love that part. The PMG front panel is quite a sight an is amazing workmanship.
The tour ended in the listening Lab. Great room. Sound was incredible. Comparing what I use and what they had going I would say probably sound similar. Same DAC, 300’s vs 600’s but my speakers are very different from the FR30’s. First they are really really big. Much bigger than I thought. Their upper end is really sweet with zero fatigue. I would have like to have heard the 20’s but no time.
Also, I did get a sneak peak of the new sub. they had a beta in the room. I could see the cone moving. Chris said he hopes the end of the year. Got a look inside the PGM Amp too.
I highly recommend a visit to their shop. The area is absolutely beautiful and has much to do otherwise for activities if you are outdoorsy. Just be careful, the thin air is for real. I did a 1.5mile walk and I was wiped way more than I should have been. A coworker who does marathons said on his run it got to him as well. it will get to you if you are not careful.
