PSA Power Plant Alternatives

Yup, that’s what I was thinking also.

I had a P5 which I decided to sell to get funds for another system component thinking I could live without it. I was wrong, system was lesser without the P5.
I bought an Equi-core 1800 as a replacement which brought the system back up. My power supply is not that dirty,
I modified the equi-core to have the power distribution in parallel as opposed to sequential. Also changed the sockets to some PS Audio Classics which were left over from room setup.
I can’t say the Equi-core is improved after these changes but makes me feel better.

Do you feel your system with the Equi-core is on par with how it was with the P5?

With both I got improved dynamics, reduced harshness and perceived darker background.
I can say I no longer miss the P5.
I am curious to do a comparison with a P12 at some point but it’s a nightmare messing with thick power cables so not in a hurry.

Why do you think the P12 would be better than the P5/Equi-core? I’m asking for the point of view of someone who doesn’t know better.

It’s a good question.
When I had the P5 I was using Class D amps so my power draw was very small.
Running a Pass Lab Power amp now so figure go bigger although I have measured it and my draw is around 400 watts with everything connected so still not that high.
Also figure the P12 should be better. I went from a PPP to the P5 and the difference was quite significant.

I forgot that the P12 etc use different tech that the P5 and so yes, one could reasonably expect it to be better.

I went from a PPP to a P5 expecting improvement and got it. Then to a P10 and got more improvement than I expected.

That’s interesting as P5 and P10 are the same gen - were you pushing the P5’s limit?

No not at all. Not more than a third of the rated power usage. But the output impedance is considerably lower from the P10 than the P5.

Gotcha.

I use and have used the AG1500S for about 3 years now excellent and compares favourably in performance to the PS Audio units if you ccannot afford them
