The updates are to make a new display board function.

Thanks, Dennis- so should sound the same as 2.4.5?
Yes it should, but that being said, you need to tell me what you think.

I had no idea of its purpose, but immediately thought it sounded a little warmer on the same music that had been playing a couple of minutes before, and still do 24 hours later. It was welcome in my system (could use even a little more).
2.4.6 sounds VERY different from 4.5. I know believe that the firmware updates include some type of equalizer settings, the sonic differences can not be due to some code for an later version of the touchscreen.
4.6 sounds MUCH more transparent than 4.5, with much greater high frequency extension leading to more " air", much, MUCH improved layering within the soundstage, and dramatically different handling of higher freq notes. Night and day difference. To my ears, 4.6 sounds like 4.4 on steroids.
In my system, 4.6 presents so much additional detail, micro-dynamic nuance with a much needed increase in both leading and trailing transients. My PWS II sounds like a completely different DAC, completely different.
The overall balance now seems somewhat tilted up (like 4.4) but I welcome the additional upper freq info especially on my 100dbhorns which tend to start rolling off in the 15k Hz area. Not sure yet if this sound will be fatiguing in the long run but I am listening to familiar recordings and they sound VERY different. I can hear so much further into the recordings, like I said the firmware updates must have some equalization settings. I don’t have the time to measure this accurately in my room but WOW, what a difference.
Agree, very happy with 2.4.6.
Also, where I liked the 44.1 SR previously, NativeX now sounds best in my system.
And normal polarity most of the time.
WELL DONE! - in fact, I’d love to hear 2.4.6 against the DirectStream.
2.4.6 still doesn’t display high ascii characters like the umlaut etc.
Instead there are 2, all white rectangles for the letter and it’s modifier.

Before switching to the DS, I would try every new firmware that would be released for the PWD II. Every single time I would revert back to the original firmware 2.0.2. Nothing ever equaled the sound quality of that set. I suspect nothing has changed. Is that firmware even available for download anymore? It would be a shame if it is not. I highly recommend that set.

will the pwd11 will go under the new teds scope ! and maybe as the ds , a new firmware? i am sure you can and felicitations to all ps
team…
Marcello saidYep those are the squares of high ascii weirdness. The new firmware 2.4.6 seems to work fine: I have no idea as to amendment with regard to the display. The audio quality seems good, at least since the "old" 2.4.4. Instead, the problems have increased with respect to the bridge firmware 0.2.15. Problems increased over the font display.
