It’s commendable that PSA continues to support its older equipment like this.
This PWD update 3.03 is also for PWD with Bridge I or is only for the ones that installed Bridge II?
My DAC version is 2.4.6 and the Bridge version is 0.2.15a
Thks

Sorry if this is obvious - do you need the bridge installed to take advantage of MQA? I have a PWD DAC II with no bridge, connected to a computer via the USB port. After installing the firmware, will my PWD be able to decode MQA? Either way, this is very exciting and a great reminder of why I chose to purchase from such a progressive and customer-obsessed company.
Best,
Ben
You need Bridge II for MQA decoding.
And welcome to the forum!

Thanks! One more question: Will I get the same MQA sound quality installing the bridge and firmware on the PWD as I would if I upgraded the PWD to a Directstream and (presuming it’s still needed for MQA), added the bridge? I understand the Direcstream can decode DSD, etc., but I’m specifically interested in comparing lossless streaming protocols in particular with MQA (e.g., what Tidal is offering). Thanks again!
Best,
Ben
The Direct Stream (senior or junior) is a significant improvement over the PWD (also a great DAC–my DS started as a PWD Mk. I). MQA is just another file format, not a magic bullet. The DAC playing the files makes as much difference as with any other file type. And yes, you need a Bridge II for MQA (it’s built into the DS Jr.).

Great! Thanks again for the incredibly useful info. Guess it’s time to start shopping…
Welcome, Ben, and happy shopping!
And, given your user name, thank you for not posting an avatar picture.
Does 3.03 add anything else besides the Bridge 2 MQA capability? I swear it sounds different!

Thanks! Thought maybe an IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.200) accessible page was added that worked similar to Bridge I.

With Bridge II firmware update (easy), PWDII firmware update (easy) and mControl (free) on the iPhone and iPad, I am streaming full-unfold MQA from Tidal!
Critical listening impressions to come. In the mean time, so much gratitude to the entire PS Audio organization for providing continued support to PWDII owners. You are one hell of a class-act company.
Just a heads up for the programmers. Having updated my PWD Mk2 and Bridge 2 I’m still not getting cover art come up
sometimes. Also a ‘CRC error 73’ is sometimes where the bit rate and frequency are normally displayed.
Not that often, and it certainly doesn’t detract from the excellent sound!
