Never heard of ELF. Or Ernest. Seems you are putting the cart before the horse. What is your personal experience using ELF products and what can you personally speak to that would compel a member of this forum to consider this line of products?
Essentially what I am saying is, lay the foundation first.
I nuked Mr ELFās posts
Ha! I did too after my prior post.
Went from 14 gauge no-name speaker wire to 12 ga Sewell to Kimber 8PRā¦each change got more fidelity. Got a great deal on my Kimber Kables from E-Bay. Never thought Iād get that much sound by upgrading speaker wires. Iām now a firm believer.
Dancingsea: you are quite right about Morrow Audio cables; lots of bells and whistles and sales hype, but little substance Iām afraid. Their digital RCA coax cable was crap in comparison with the AudioQuest Diamond digital coax cable, which is way more revealing on my system with the PS Audio DirectStream DAC. I have also replaced the Morrow Audio interconnects and speaker cable, with Tara Labs. Much more resolving and sonically purer and better. And in case you are wondering, I got the Morrow Audio top of the range coax cable, and the Mike Morrow recommended interconnects and speaker cables for my system. Not a shade on Tara Labs. Morrow Audio cables are also flimsy in comparison, and I have to question whether their interconnects, digital cables and power cables are properly shielded to prevent EMI and RF interference and noise distortion. And yes, they have a perpetual saleā¦??
I love my VooDoo Cable Stradivarius Cremona and Amati RCA and XLR cables. . . but itās hard to recommend anyone spend that kind of money. Most of these I managed to get at a discount used or as previous demos from the then company owner who made me some amazing offers.
Since then I have made two vey interesting interconnect discoveries. One I can heartily recommend: Granite Audio. Their silver interconnects are amazingly open and smooth and yet revealing. No downside that I have found. Not cheap, but not stratospheric in price. And in bargain mode I discovered that years ago I had bought two pair of Audioquest coaxial component cables, AudioQuest YIQ-5 2 m. These have āperfect surfaceā solid silver conducters and quality heavy shielding (which is particularly helpful in my situation). These too are smooth but resolving as two channel RCA stereo interconnects, letting the third cable just dangle harmlessly. When I see these available they are usually around 100 dollars each. . . a bargain for the quality sound.
I pity the poor OP; sounds like the advice from the audiosphere is āOne of every cable ever madeā.
I auditioned a pair of BAV rca cables from Iconoclast and they immediately sounded more dynamic than my standard Kimber PBJ interconnects. I was so impressed by their performance I replaced all of my main rig interconnects with them. I want to try the Iconoclast speaker cables and compare them to my Kimber 4TC but I have others priorities that need to come first.
See we are all different. I tried BAV RCA interconnects and did not like them.
Lonson,
Which compass direction do you face when you are in your sweet spot? Earthās gravity may be affecting the flow and quality of electrons in the cables!
I face West. . .where I will be headed when I pass. I want to keep studying that pathway as I donāt want to get lost!
I face due south, Iām told it speeds up electricityābut damn it, al my cables and interconnects run east-west! ?*&^%$#
I took my cue from my interest in Egyptology. . .as the sun ādiesā on the horizon in the West, and as life moves towards death, no matter what, and music is ātruthā. . . I figure facing West is best. Who knows? South might be better!
What did you compare them to?
Other cables on hand from Tara Labs, cryoset.com, PS Audio, Audioquest, My Audio Cables, Synergistic Research, Dyson Audio, Decware and my mainstay VooDoo Cables.
I went with Cerious cables based on a member recommendation here (he has a very similar system to me) and they are spectacular. I got interconnects, power cables, and speaker cables.
Prior to this I had Basic Amazon XLR > Blue Jean XLR > Morrow Audio XLRs. I tried higher end Morrow speaker cables at the same time as I was trying Cerious cable speakers and the Cerious were far better, although more expensive. I enjoyed a sonic improvement with each upgrade, Iām quite happy with my Cerious setup right now.
Quilty as charged Great sounding cables and full loom is pretty awesome after they settle down. Talk about cable burn in / settling with themā¦even after thousands of hours of playing they take a few days to settle and show their best resolution and ease if moved or disconnected. Have fun and if you ever look further,Iconoclast awaits.
Funk CS-2. My XLR-Connection between DSD Sr. and Pre (Funk MTX Monitor) and also between Pre and my Active Speakers (Neumann KH 420). CS-2 is very clear, fast and sonically very Straight Forward. Not adding any sweetness or glare ā¦
