I’m late to this thread but if you havent made a decision yet and if space is not an issue maybe consider one or two Tekton 4-10 subs. They are sub columns with 4 10" drivers. Made here in America and built very well and a bargain price. 800 bucks each. Eric is good to deal with and responsive. I bought a pair of these to run with Magnepan 1.7i’s. Running some Analysis Plus clear oval cables from the m700’s to each sub for signal. These subs are amazing. Insane output if desired, full variable phase control. Bass response is very smooth and detailed. Will hit all the low end frequencies effortlessly. For the money, these are far better than the Rel, SVS and gang imo. People say Rels are fast and I dont disagree…the Tektons are fast too. Give em a look.
Good morning Chris, welcome to Boulder Hotel. You can check in anytime, but you will never leave…
As for my subs: I made the decision and bought two Rel T9i’s. They just slightly and gently add some low notes. If you browse thru this thread you’ll see a picture.
Thanks anyway and nice meet’n ya…
sorry I appropriated your thread, Ronald
Nah, no sweat my friend…
Hi Ronald,
These active speakers are on my bucket list:
Abacus Oscara
Note any resemblance, the teeter (AMT) is equally constructed as a dipole source of sound. It goes all the way down to 1 kHz. With an active 12” professional (PA gear) midrange and active 12” sub, I trust with those puppies I would not need separate subs, neither power amplifiers, as they are active all the way active, with analog cross over preserving the character of the analog sources and DAC. I would not mind a DSP for the sub range, but I am not sure about the higher frequencies. The drivers are large but I like the way Abacus kept the closed cabinet as small as possible.
Good morning Rudolph, I’m not sure whether there’s a question hidden somewhere in your pitch but I checked the PDF and it looks very nice and sturdy. I’ll bet ya they will be with you till kingdom come.
No question initially Ronald. When I looked up the picture with your new REL’s I noticed the top mount dipole tweeter on the speakers in the same room.
But since you mention the word question. Your speakers seem to be positioned 45 deg to the walls, do you still get the sound stage you wish for?
I have a complicated living room myself so if that configuration sounds good for you I have hope that the dipole tweeter will serve me right.
It is like you are able to walk right to the person playing on the stage. Depending on the music between the speakers or way in the back. But that doesn’t really matter whether they are in a corner of against a wall, as longs as they are FAR AWAY from that wall…
What is the approximate distance (measured from the front of the speaker) to the wall in your case Ronald?
In my living room, with the big open baffles it is 1,5 meters. The set with the sub’s it is a little less but more than a meter. And if it wasn’t for practical purposes I’ld make it 2 meters or better…
They would be standing in the middle of our living room. I am happy to have my speakers 55 to 60 cm from the wall.
Martin Logan subs are very under-rated, I have a 10" 300watt ML sub (Dynamo something) and it really delivers.
Any brands subs seem to be underrated on this forum.
ELAC, Canton, Focal, B&W and many other brands manufacture good subs, Velodyne has been adopted by a German Business man and continue to be sold.
I just can not see the point why a regular speaker manufacturer would not be able to manufacture Subwoofers in less quality than sub woofer manufacturers by definition.
I don’t like the REL’s for example, because they offer only a single channel input. So for the best stage you nee 2 of them. Fir a 2.1 set up you need a sub with stereo input to not miss the bass signal of the other channel. Many other manufacturers offer stereo inputs the get mixed together.
Martin Logan and Dynaudio manufacture subs with digital sound processors to help adapt to the room. Some of their subs include XLR inputs. Not sure if they include auto phase alignment, but they’re definitely audiophile grade. [Edit] I should have said “room correction” rather than “adapt to the room”.
The REL T series has only one RCA input plus an LFE input for home theater, but you could use the high level input with the supplied speaker cable to connect both channels. The S series has stereo L/R plus LFE RCA inputs and the high level input.
Paradigm not only makes some of the best subs out there, they have the scale and make everything in Canada. Few others can match their scale.
Yes REL were early to include speaker level inputs. By the way, Paul supports this connection as it carries the same acoustic signature feeding thee main speakers.
E110s just sitting in the closet huh??? That’s doesn’t seem right at all…
Long story, but they’re back in the system now, but not too much longer. Thinking of selling them and trying something else, just because.
