Roon Beta for Next Version of 1.8

You always have to initiate the upgrade manually for the remote app…at least on iOS.

Initiate, yes. From app store, no.

True that…

Let Roon Radio work its magic with the TV sound turned off during TNF last night… No glitches for 2.5 quarters of football (then I had to go to bed) and sounded just fine.

Still, the overall sonics are not my reference. If I want to be in the zone, JRMC has to be spinning the tunes from my hard drive or great recordings on SACD or CD have to be spinning on the PSA DMP.

As I have mentioned several times before, even files on the hard drive tend to sound better via JRMC than they do via Roon. That said, I hope to do some focused A/B-ing sometime this weekend to see if I can discern any improvement with the sound of MK 1.8, as compared to JRMC with files.

Cheers.

Precisely, as in Gnu:

I can’t play native DSD in my Roon setup. It was coincidental with the new release and immediately after I had loaded new music on my drives. Two weeks and I’m unable to use my new Gaia DDC. Call me annoyed! No solution that works from on the Roon support forum. I’ve tried all of their participant’s ideas to no avail.

Do you have a second Roon zone where you can test DSD playback?

Having secondary zones has been handy for me when I need to troubleshoot.

Are you going into the Gaia via USB from your Room core?

If so, have you tried going from the core directly into your DAC?

I am….via DoP it won’t pass native DSD it’s not a option.

Have you tried cabling around the GAIA?

Roon core → DAC

Do you hear an improvement with Gaia? Ted says DoP is as good as native and I think it is. Although I have the Matrix, I found myself listening via Bridge II more often because Roon blends my local library streaming services. Bridge does DoP 64 only and I find that quite pleasant and musical. I added a LAN isolation switch and a fiberoptic media converter before Bridge and they made things even better!

The problem has been resolved with mode “0” on the Gaia. It appears that mode “2” as per the Hermes, doesn’t work with the Gaia. Mode 2 just gives me white noise just like my failed Matrix. I was confused because white noise is white noise. I finally realized that the modes were potentially at fault when one of our forum members pointed this out when he discussed correct modes for the Gaia vs the Hermes. I’m pleased now that it’s working as it’s supposed to be working. The biggest change is the tightening up of the soundstage. The location of instruments on stage kind of snapped into place with the Gaia.

The Forum to the rescue!

I wonder how many issues have been resolved here. Hundreds doesn’t seem farfetched.

There’s a lot of truth in that.

I hope I’ve learned enough over the years to be able to sniff out the BS in short order.

I am alone in finding search no longer useful at all? It’s useless for me at any rate.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck . . .

I suggest searching the site using Google. For example, to find references to Enya:

site:psaudio.com enya

In Roon? If so, I personally haven’t noticed much of a change with this last update. It still doesn’t do a good job inferring from a misspelled search. I also haven’t found a way to search local and online sources for recordings from a single label.

I’m talking about searching in Roon for a particular piece of music Elk.
