I just read about this an hour ago! I saw them on the R40 tour in early 2015. Who would have guessed Neil would be gone just a short while after that. Fingers crossed you get to see them!
I’m curious if any new music will be released in the future, as Neil Pert, I believe, wrote the majority of the lyrics
Just listened to 2112 on a short road trip with a 32 yo coworker, who had never listened to Rush, or many other groups that I introduced her to on this trip. I’m calling the process “The Education of Erin”
This is going to be a short 7 city tour and they will play favorites. It’s more of a get together with fans and also pay tribute to Neil. I wouldn’t read anything more into it than that.
I first heard about it on one of Rick Beato’s YT channels yesterday. He offers an interesting perspective on drummer, Anika Nilles. 500K views in less than 24 hours says a lot about interest.
Courtesy of 1440 Daily Digest, Variety also has a nice little write up on the tour. What I thought is especially interesting is this iteration of Rush allows adding touring artists that I don’t know would have been previously accepted. I love that Cleveland was chosen for the final show.
I’ve seen Rush a couple of times separated by 20+ years. The last one I got to share with my oldest child. Great fun that I won’t be able to relive on this tour but I sincerely hope they choose to make a DVD / stream available to archive.
I hate to be the skunk at the garden party, but I would have respected this reunion tour more if they called it “Geddy and Alex Perform the Music of Rush,” “Rush 2.0,” or something similar.
I support Geddy and Alex’s right to tour and perform Rush songs. But calling the new trio “Rush” strikes me as bordering on sacrilege.
I read that Neil’s widow and daughter gave their blessing for the upcoming tour. That is interesting, but it doesn’t change the fact that Geddy, Alex and Neil agreed that Rush would not go on without all three of them. The following is from the below-linked article:
Having said all that, I hope the shows are great, I am happy for the people who are excited for the tour, and I will be interested to hear the ROIO’s (recordings of independent origin).
I remember that quote, so glad you found it and shared! It bothered me when they announced the tour under the Rush name and thought the same as you that Rush 2.0 would have been a respectable compromise.
I respect @bootzilla ‘s opinion. I totally get the purity thing (ABWH - An Evening of Yes Music Plus comes to mind). Not gonna touch today’s “Yes” and I’ve seen ARW twice and went to 2017’s Yestival here in Phoenix at Celebrity Theater.
Once gain, I went off the rails. I’m “in line” since yesterday morning’s video drops (The Boyz & R&R HoF). I hoping to get tix for my Son & I for L.A. (my friend might go a well). Definitely want to see them in Mexico City (my in-laws live there).
Anika Nilles is a great Drummer who like many other folks, I’ve never heard of. My feeling is this a good thing. Had they gone with a name brand. This would have been thought of as just another cash grab. Those of us Rush Freaks though will not compare her onstage playing with Lerxt & Dirk against that of Pratt’s or Rutsey’s for that matter.
Hey, 51 years they took a chance with some Dude that worked at his Old Man’s John Deere Parts & Service Counter in St Catherines, Ontario (read Ghost Rider - the Man knows his way around a wrench and has that Hamilton attitude that we are all know for - think BMW Dealer in Mexico and “let’s just take the wheel off of that Demo Bike up there shall we”).
Until I have unscalped Tickemaster Tix in my hand. I can’t comment too much.
