I am in the discs sound better category. But I tend to be Roon lazy.
Train the rabbits to earn their keep . . .
Iām definitely Roon lazy! With that said I have a modified Oppo 203 with the I2S output card installed for my SACD transport. The sound is good tho I doubt it compares to a Jays or PST. I prefer the sound of DSD files streamed thru my Auralic over the Oppo player.
My mood changes every hour and I need to get up and āshake a legā, so old school CD/transport suits me very well.
My Apple Watch tells me itās time to stand and instead I change to different Roon playlist.
Did your PST arrive yet?
Iām expecting it in a couple of weeks.
Iām a disc only guy, and I have an obscene amount. Not going to change.
@jamesh please check your PMs. Paging Jamesā¦
James is taking this week off. Back next week.
Ouch. I was hoping for some insights from him to help me make a decision re the sale. Oh, well.
This is my conundrum as well. That and having my CD collection scattered across three locations, ripping my collection and streaming seemed to be the solution. On the other hand should any of my current CD spinners give up the ghost Iāll be kicking myself for passing on this PS PST offer.
Roon lazy today, hopefully Octave lazy soon.
Roon laziness kicks in but the PST at the discount price is hard to pass. With the trial period extended to the end of year, it is no brainer. I always think if the cost of a gear puts financial strain, it is not for me. I am very happy with the PST so far and it gets me to listen to entire albums instead of jumping from one song to another. Many albums have great pieces that are often missed.
Worse than jumping from one song to another, is not finishing songs at all. It takes a more disciplined listener with Mr. Roon in the room.
Playlists lose style more rapidly than an album doesā¦the only playlists REALLY worth a damn, were the mixtapes from ladies in my youth and that involved handwritten song titles, and, well, doodling.
There are still a few good real radio stations out thereā¦often better than Roon radio (even though it kind of digs into my previous song selectionā¦I donāt trust these selections very often).
I must agree, nothing beats doodling ladies in our youth.
I am soooo with you Brother !
My second PST arrived today. At first it did not power up. But it turned out to be the expensive heavy power cable was released by the flimsy power outlets in my P20. I fixed that and it powered up, Silently read the CD, and has been playing for hours now. I have it on repeat disc. If it is going to have a problem, it will be sooner rather than later.
AES/EBU into the Grimm MU1. Still no I2S in my MAIN system.
Oh well. It sounds swell.
You should put a file on a memory stick and use the USB input on repeat so you save some wear on the disc drive. Thatās what I did to break the unit in.
Itās the disc drive that was bad on my first one. It is what I want to test most.
