@luca.pelliccioli … It seems like you are the perfect person to evaluate the effectiveness of 2 PSI C214 active bass traps versus the Gryphon PZ and/or the Schnerzinger grid protector. I only mention this because a lot of folks have commented on the quality of bass and the musicality improvements with both the PZ and the Schnerzinger GP. I would normally ask @aangen to do this but he has Baach room correction…and he probably would pooh pooh my bass trap fetish.
Thanks, fred75.
As for Puritan I don’t use their grounding system anymore (just on the side wall rack where no schnerzy things are in use).
As for CAD GC1 I haven’t tried yet removing them. I’ll do the experiment as soon as I can, maybe next weekend.
This week you are the second person to give me this suggestion.
I’m waiting for the EMI Protector and hopefully the MSB Digital Director within next week. I need more time before focusing on other stuff but certainly the PSI could be on my 2025 list.
Owning both a PZ and (1) PSI C214, I can share that when the PZ was added to my system (the C214 had been in for over 6 months prior with a P15) the improvement in the bass was evident and I turned down the C214 from +4db to 0db.
In my room the C214 is still needed even with the PZ. When I turn off the C214 the low bass excites the room way too much starting at moderate volume levels. The PZ does so much more to the overall sound I would rate its impact far above the C214 - but, without the C214 I can’t listen to heavy bass tracks even with the PZ, so I need both.
Looking forward to a review that only Luca can do!
I will have a C214 on Thursday this week. I’ll let the clan know if it tames my excitable room.
Let us know how it works with the Grid Protector!
It’d be nice if someone with a C214 could do a room sweep with and without the 214 in use, so we could see what looks different - FR, waterfall, spectrograph…
I can do that and have been doing that in conjunction with analysis and advice from GIK.
Despite marginally better graphs with four very large new bass traps in place, there is still much taming to do. Hence, the C214 active thing-a-ma-jig that’s on its way. I guess I’m hoping for less intrusive options, like MFats has found.
The REW software is revealing, and leads you to specific problematic frequencies, BUT, it is only a tool and at best a reinforcement of information that you already knew. You know what’s good or bad about a room. Getting back to where you are listening to music, and not being overshadowed by its faults, is another matter.
I’m afraid PZGP can do a different job acting as a “cleaner” while acoustic treatments and speakers set up still remain the right way to go if the room has bass issues.
To stop a car I need better brakes first not better tires.
Indeed. And, those “treatments” can be active, passive, and whatever that shake and bake Black Box does. Save from building the room from scratch, the after-build approach is only BandAids. But I’m ready to get in the ring!
Just got my Stack 100’s today. Thought I would try micro managing my bad vibrations today.
Sent you a PM - I’ve got some fresh sweeps you may be interested in.
Perhaps these should be moved to the C214 thread.
I’ll vouch for you on that! And you are more serious than Mike Tyson!
The solution for my room’s bass issue is 4 more No. 25’s. I’m not sure that day will ever come.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going!
The measurement improvements I have seen from other folks using the 214s in their rooms have been both less overhang/ faster decay times and smoother response curve under 140hz. I am an idiot when it comes to implementing measurements in my current room.
Just a thought, and have not been following progress on your wonderful system and room, but has MBL assisted with room set-up? Seems you are close to getting the room dialed in and now may be the time to pursue it.
I am still doing some adjustments and furniture fixture additions so not for at least another 3 months. Honestly I am fine waiting for Jeremy to arrive after installing more Extreme systems with the newer Sub Towers.
Will Jeremy travel in the middle of your winter storms? lol
Dealer offered me to try nearly everything in the Schnerzinger portfolio. So soon will be entering the experience team
If you have the money to buy all thier products you are on the experience team. If you can’t you are just a glutton for punishment like me.
