I like the old one too but the new design could works IF the leg design is updated.
In case the side panels you referred to would have been thinner an real wood it might have been different, I like those thick veneered side panels seen gone.
…or maybe not finally.
Nice work Paul and Co. A nice new look. As some noted above, would like an all gloss black option (speaker and stands).
Cost would be the big reason. Those other brands mentioned are only front and back firing speakers. So maybe side woofers add to the complication of the design. The KEF Blades TWO are beautifully shaped with side firing woofers but they also cost $25,0000 original Blades $32,000. Not to far off from latest quoted price of the AN3.
If you have a properly acoustic treated room, then add DSP either built in the speakers or better yet from a software company like Audiolense (many others exist) then some or close to all the speaker faults either intentional or unintentional almost become unnoticeable. Some would go as far to say that many speakers can sound the same.
Personally I could care less about the design until I hear the speaker. If my ears like it, then I’ll judge if it fits my style. For what it’s worth, I do like the design, especially the grill. It reminds me of the old counsel TV/Stereos or old tubed guitar amps.
Just my two cents
It’s modern again and I like it, similar to the Ruark equipment somebody showed above.
@moredins and @berlin, I like IKEA stuff and for me there is nothing wrong with that style of 50 years ago that you showed an example of either. But that is taste and I think your very much entitled to have your own and express it. Enjoy the weekend.
Opinions are like a-holes, but if possible I would propose removing the integrated sub amp. I personally never look at any speaker that has one as it is bound to fail (probably more than once) in the speaker’s lifetime. Aesthetically it typically also makes the speaker look cheaper by disrupting continuity of the enclosure IMO.
I would recommend making it a separate mono or stereo module out of the speaker if possible if you wan’t to keep it active.
I like IKEA too; just not for my audio gear.
I could be wrong, but It’s hard to believe that the wood stand was designed as an optimal isolation feature, first and foremost, and not more of a design decision than anything else.
I am not a fan of the new design. It reminds me of a 40 year old piece of furniture.
The wood stands are poor. Any outrigger design would be preferred.
I must have missed it… why the change?
I think this new design is unattractive… looks… umm… undone. Your prior design was nice, like furniture.
Regarding these legs… they are fine. They would fit nicely into my mid-century modern home.

This is a DUX chair my mom and dad purchased circa 1959, I threw up on it circa 1961:
40 years would be the 1980s. Time flies. These actually look much older than that—1950s or 1960s. It would be one thing if the whole design was consistently retro. As someone said previously, the speaker cabinets look like a PC tower from the 1990s—minimalist, utilitarian, something Dell would bring to market. The lack of a consistent design language is what throws me off the most.
My first though was, too, that someone combined what should not be combined. But often we can’t distinguish crap (not meant for those speakers) from art. That’s why I finally assumed it’s art.
And I’m really serious that I doubt my own taste here in case someone with real design understanding did it very purposeful. Then I’m probably thinking too boring and conventional.
Beautiful chair! I too, like the look of the furniture legs on the AN3.
The speakers and speaker desk lights they developed with Sonos look and sound good, not my high end system but decent for mobile streaming.
You could pick up some speaker grille cloth from Amazon and fashion a couple of bag type covers for the LS50. I don’t think it would hurt the sound enough to be a problem and might keep prying fingers away. I used some of it to fashion a cover for a Tekton Impact center channel I have that my wife was tired of looking at the drivers. I couldn’t tell any difference and life is much better for it.
Great idea. Thanks.
I have yet to hear the proverbial

So you may be right . . .
