Sprout 100 as a preamp

I’ve been using the Sprout 100 together with a Denafrips Ares 12-1 DAC, a Rel sub, and Wharfedale Denton 85th Anniversary loudspeakers. Very happy with their performance but I’m now ready to explore other sounds and have been looking at the Galion TS A75 which requires a preamp. A new decent preamp may cost about the same as the amp, so I would prefer to wait for a good preamp later instead of going for a cheapo now… So, my question is, I know I can use the Sprout as a preamp, has anyone done this and could comment how was the experience? Thanks.

Though I was a very happy owner of the Sprout , I never used it as a preamp.

But I remember PS Audio’s very own @jamesh saying how they had hooked it up to an S300 and were pleasantly shocked at how good it worked in that configuration.

How do you connect the Sprout 100 as a preamp? I was not aware this could be done.

It has analog out, which I assume is variable. I can’t get to it right now, but it would be pretty easy for me to see if it works later tonight.
Edit: The manual confirms variable out.

You got it. It is variable. Most folks hook up a subwoofer to the analog out but it actually sounds quite good feeding it to a separate amp.

Good to know I’m not crazy!

Like others have said, use the analog out to a power amp.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback
