One I’ve been seeking out for several years. Each time a copy popped up some one beat me to it. By no means a holy grail, just a collection of players I admire. The performance is outstanding. Harrison Bankhead Velvet Blue, with Ed Wilkerson, Mars Williams, and the effervescent Avreeayl Ra. I now have added a mint copy to my CD collection.
Die Like a Dog Close Up coming from Peter Brotzmann, with Toshinori Kondo, William Parker, and Hamid Drake.
Indeed! Thanks for sharing.
Change is a comin’.
Marcus Roberts “Blues for the New Millenium” Columbia cd
It now IS that new millenium. . . and I’ve had the blues. Managing them well though.
This is giving me memories of my 'nineties Austin life with my late first wife and our pets. For a spell there life was as good as it gets at home. I was listening to a lot of “Chicago Style” jazz at the time based on the old New Orleans jazz and blues.
I want it, have not been able to find it domestically. Going to have to download from Destination Out,

Listening to this now via Qobuz, very cool. Thanks for the post.
If you dug that Mr. Hughes, I discovered there are a number of interesting recordings on Whirlwind Records–through bandcamp I’ve discovered they have dozens of releases for $1 for a download and $3 dollar cds. (Likely they can be streamed as well).
I love this one. I was floored by her second album, so ordered this third one and it’s different but equally moving.
Virginia Rodrigues “Mares Profundos”
Now on to this . . . the Jackson tunes are actually very cleverly arranged and performed. And the “original compositions” are even better.
