Sunlight: Installation and Technical Issues

I’m experimenting with resolving the bridge/dsd pop/tick/static noise (roon, when switching between formats to DSD/DSF, pausing during DSD/DSF playback, and going from some DSD/DSF tracks to another). I don’t think it effects everyone, as only a few reports of this so their may be some way to install properly. I tried reinstalling Sunlight (original DSJ) on top of the initial Sunlight install but that didn’t resolve it. In older firmware threads it was mentioned to try adjusting Roon’s Resync Delay setting. I tried up to 10 seconds. It didn’t help, but I left the setting on 1 second. The pop is always instantly present, but 1 second of silence at least makes it appear the pop isn’t part of the track itself. I’ll try installing from Yale later today, the newer DSJ download (newer zip file up ‘Sunlight-for-DirectStream-Junior-FL’) and to see if I can reinstall the bridge firmware on the DSJ.

Thanks, it is a very fine work!

Thanks Paul. The DSD’s volume was set at 25% after the update. Dawkinsj made me aware that this feature was put in a few updates ago to save the folks that use their DSD’s volume control. I keep mine at 100% and use my preamp’s volume control.

very, very weird problem. did you manage to roll-back to windom, at least? Is all normal?

As per the bridge firmware, I think it is easier for you to check with the mconnect control app. It is fast and simple.

thanks @jamesh. You might want to have a look at @an-lange issue. It appears to be quite intriguing.

He should call in and chat with one of our tech support guys. I haven’t heard anyone else with these issues and it’s possible our tech support team has and will know more.

Aha! Of course, should have thought of that. Safety feature.

After two evenings trying different cards, erasing with Mac and Windows and following all steps… I give up

It does not work, I cannot update from Wisdom to Sunlight

Pity

Cheers

Joaquin

Yes, you of all people should have.

Joaquin
Do you disconnect the I2S cable when you run thru the process?
And in instances like yours, maybe ordering a preloaded card from PSA is the answer.

Did you format the card to fat32 before downloading Sunlight onto it?

I do not have is2. Coax and usb

And ordering a preload one is out of question… I ordered the Reference SACD two months ago and it did not arrive yet, and the only response I receive from PS Audio customer service is “I see you order is in transit”… (after mor than 2 months I say is lost and should be refunded or sent again…

Very Sad

Thanks anyway

Yes I did

Using Mac and Using Windows

Thanks anyways

Are you trying to update a DSD or DSJ?

Hi James,

I am trying to update a DSD with Wisdom installed

I would love to try Sunlight.

Thanks

Great, I just emailed you some files.

I just succeeded in installing the Sunlight.

Unfolded the zip file with the program Winzip and then copyed the files to the SD card and then it worked.

Oh boy I got a new and MUCH better dac now. Sounds so very open and detailed , more natural, better than a good turntable…

I am really stunned by the performance now.

There were for me. I gave both filenames above. The only link to download the latest is this one (which automatically redirects to the downloadable ZIP file):

https://www.psaudio.com/download/sunlight-for-dsj

So two days ago, I retrieved it as one filename and yesterday, as another. Other than the different “modified by” dates on the files, the older ZIP file has the four update files compressed, where the newer one only has them stored (no compression), and are within a folder.

I’ve verified: checksums are the same file-to-file, even though the file dates were different. So yes, it’s the same set of files.

Crickets ?? No one else uses their DSSr. With a HDMI Video to I2S Adapter like these ? :

HDMI Video to I2S HDMI Adapter Board

Boxed Up Version HDMI Video to I2S HDMI Adapter

Blue Board for DSD Channel Correction

Are you looking at taking the HDMI out of a blu-ray/sacd player, peel off the audio and run it to a DS via I2S?

I thought about that a while back, and decided it was simpler to rip them to DSD.
