I agree. I am going to find some myrtle wood and give it a try.
if you dont mind…You used a 2X4 ? How long did they end up being ? 4" ?
Thanks

ps
and how did they work for you?
I just bought some myrtle stock (e.g., here) and cut it as close to 0.618” by 1” by 1.61 as I could using a table saw. It is very nice wood to work.
I am not sure they did anything for the sound, but they are pretty.
Well,
I was hoping none of this was true. I tried several kinds and pieces of wood. I settled on white oak drumsticks. Crazy…I could tell a difference in less distortion I didn’t know was there before. Back and forth it was there and not there.
I will also check out that site (I bookmarked it) for the myrtle wood. Thanks Elk.
And thanks RedRiver…I woulda never thunk
Might all be in my head, but Im keeping them in.
Weird crap

Our appreciation of sound reproduction is all in our heads. If something makes it sound better to you, it is better.
I would think the effect of Mrytle wood will depends placement and adjacent enviroment (rack) and could be subtle compared to more aggressively designed isolators such as Still Points, which are much more expensive;
As an update. Prior to considering wood blocks my pre was next to my DSD on a 300 lbs oak legless table. When the pre was stacked on the DSD, adding wood sounded better. As an experiment I moved the pre back to the oak table next to and not stacked on the DSD. As you can expect it was better than the components being stacked with or without wood. So duh. The pre is back where it belongs and sounds best.
I also spiked my speakers and sub today. not dramatic but very nice.

as it sits now.
Added Matrix X-SPDIF 2 and a Van Alstine phono preamp.
Moved the P3ESR’s closer together as suggested by @stevensegal. Good call.
Sounds great for a modest system. (Modest aside from the Harbeths!)
Nice system, and attractive too, I like all the wood tones.
Chas
Very nice indeed and no need to be modest.
What are the wooden things the Harbeths are sitting on? I am getting some new bookshelf speakers and need to raise them about 3-5 inches
They’re bases I made from some brazilian cherry i had. Basically just a square, mitered box, but I cut the lower part at an angle to give it some personality.
Looks great! Thanks!!
P3 was the main reason made me getting into this hobby 20 years ago. Nice system you have here!
Friday night, a glass of Barolo and dimmed lights. Does it get better? My amps are on their way back to the creator for a massage. The red glow is 6 tubes warming my soul!
Updated my system:
- Moved the Matrix X SPDIF 2 away from the DSD. Looking into ways to add an extra shelf for it to the rack, and to also separate the XP-22 from its PSU.
- Replaced my beloved SOtM SMs200ultra/PSU with a Lumin U1 Mini (to get rid of the buggy Aries Mini for girlfriend/Spotify). The Mini is great!
- Convolution filter from REW active via Roon. Sounds fantastic. (Yes, I know… I’m working on room treatment.).
- And not to forget: replaced my 10m Vovox XLR (pre to active ATCs) with 32 foot BJC/Belden/Iconoclast BAV. Heck, they need to break-in, too.
New room almost done
Major changes in the past few months. New place, rack, speakers, streamer/server, stellar p3. Need to focus on room treatments now and probably 2 REL subs but they will have to go inside the speakers and room will be tight so will need to be at biggest the s/812’s and 212/se’s.
Now that is a treated room. I need to emulate
That is a great looking equipment rack. Who is the rack manufacturer?
