…something that won’t kill me while I sleep.
Fear the Wilson …
Chas
I’ve heard Wilsons, and I’m sure that pair sounds magnificent, but ain’t no way I’d ever want that thing in my house.
That does seem more like a Pool House speaker.
At $750k + options I will have to think about it just a little longer
I heard the new Wilson Chronosonic XVX, designed by Daryl Wilson, at Innovative Audio in Manhattan a couple weeks ago. It’s being billed as the new Wilson flagship even though the WAMM Master Chronosonic is still available (the latter is not considered a “production” model, apparently). At $329k for the pair the former is a bargain compared to the latter, which can be had for a mere $850k. The new model, which was demoed by Peter McGrath in a system that would total around $600k plus (D’Agostino amps, Spectral CD player, Berkeley DAC, Transparent cables, etc.), sounded pretty damn good to me. I’d have to buy a new house and extend my retirement indefinitely to be able to buy even the smaller units, unfortunately. I’d probably also have to get a divorce. Ain’t gonna happen but it was fun hearing them.
OK. $850k + options
Hey, as long as they include the footers…
Just take it out of petty cash and be done with it!
That’s roughly 8.5 million pop bottle deposit returns. I have quite a few laying around but I think I would have to start dumpster diving to come up with the rest.
The look like they are going to swallow you, the sound must be pretty immersive. Not my taste of looks. The sound might very well be magnificent, but they do look scary to me. Luckily in a 850 years I don’t have to worry about it.
First amp upgrade in 10 years, to an Ayon Spirit III Mk4. With RELs taking care of the bottom octave, I can use tubes on these not-tube-friendly speakers. The DS Dac makes me smile every day, and my PPP is still kickin’ after nine years of daily service.
That’s a great room. I think you should try a later power plant, e.g. a P10 or one of the latest - they’re miles better than a PPP (in my experience).
That’s great to know, Dan. The PPP constricts current to the degree that an amp is miles better when plugged into the wall. But it still serves the DSD nicely in A/B comparison with the wall.
Hooray for LS50s!!!
What Sub is that?
They remind me too much of this!

My room is small. Near field listening gives best results in here. Right now the DSD is directly feeding the BHK 300’s. The T5i’s are used sparingly as the Reference One’s have great low end, especially in this small room. On the left is a 1950’s Bozak 302 Urban with my turntable on top, I love its look.
Lou Reed is in here singing to me. “Vanishing Act”.
