Setups with enough space behind speakers are rarely seen. I’m sure you have great depth there!
What a killer amp… Had a chance to hear it, along with a set of Ayon towers at T.H.E. Show in Long Beach last year. It was my favorite room.
Didn’t expect those large B&W are so efficient to be driven by this amp.
T 5i is a great little sub, isn’t it? I have one in my second (office) system. It really “fills in” nicely with my Anthony Gallo Acoustics Reference Strada stand mounted speakers.
Nice kit you have there…enjoy.
Its a rel t9i
Our systems are very similar. What port inserts are you using with the KEF Reference 1s?
The speaker stands are cool. Great looking system.
They’re 93dB efficient if you can believe it! But dip to 3 ohms in a couple of places…
No need for 300W Class D apparently
Yeah, they are great in the room I have. They were actually perfect with the LS50’s. I really love those speakers. The R1’s are just a whole lot more.
I’m using the lower posts. What pre-amp are you using? I’m in the market.
Cary SLP-05. The only other difference is I use T7is…plus, I have the KEFs much closer to the back wall. The Reference 1s are pretty amazing. I have the longer (low frequency) port inserts in. I’ve experimented a little between the longer and short ones. I also have the RELs dialed way down.
I also keep the RELs way down low. I settled on the shorter port insert. I’m really the only one in that room so having the speakers out in the middle of the room is acceptable and oh man the holography is intoxicating. I listened until almost 4am last night. Just cant get enough.
Crazy person is back to this old-timey setup. Selling my Schiit gear (only the Yggdrasil DAC is still on the market at this point), and I reinstated my trusty, dusty old Audiolab 8000A integrated. This space is just too nearfield and small for separates. Plus i can get my SACD player back in the mix.
The Schiit stuff sounded great, but I needed to listen with my eyes closed because it was taking over the space. In a bigger room, I would have kept it, no question.
I CAN BREATHE AGAIN.
Do you have anything thing between those monitors and the cabinet, hard to tell. If not you might consider putting Iso-Puck Mini’s under them. Eight for $99.
I really like your setup. I have the occasional thought that I went overboard in my stereo purchases. When I see a system like yours, I am a little envious. It looks cozy, an experience that some of us in NH, VT value. I will take your cue and try nearfield listening.
Happy listening,
Chas
thanks, Chas.
I’ve tried a bunch of different things in here. Vintage Sony separates, PS Audio Sprout 100, Cambridge Audio CXA80, Stellar M700 stack, Schiit separates… but I keep coming back to this goofy old Audiolab 8000A.
Tried many speakers, too. Some too-big: ELAC (budget ones), B&W 602s; Some very small: Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus (big sound for a small speaker), Harbeth P3ESR Anniversary. I tried my pair of PSB Imagine B’s, and those sounded really good… but the Focal Aria 906’s are the best in here so far.
The Thorens TD-150 turntable is the constant.
I feel like I need an elephant to perch on my components. Seems like the one constant in this thread.
And hooray for another Spin Clean!!
Nah, Chas, you need bigger. I vote for a pair of Focal Utopias for you.
