I think maybe a tiny bit, but could be just my imagination. They’re there mainly to protect my gear against our iRobot Roomba slamming into them.
Very inviting system. It “looks” like it should sound awesome. Whatever that means.
We had serious riots in Brixton about 10 years ago and the place was set on fire, can’t even remember why. There was even a big march in support in London today. Hope it calms down soon.
I do the same thing for my amp!
toxteth in the early 80s too…
Feel a Clash song coming on…
(Glasgow resident…remember the Poll Tax riots)
Very cool!
Thought I would share latest additions to lighting of music media. After all it’s pretty important to be able to see all those disks. LED under cabinet lighting for LPs and strip light for CDs. Makes you want to go exploring late at night. What’s not to like?
I would need four or five of those. LOL
That’s really nice, you’ve inspired me to do the same! Can I ask what shelving that is, it’s lovely wood?
The LP case is custom made by my limited carpentry skills. I think just Birch plywood. The CD rack was purchased ages ago and nothing real special in terms of wood.
For LPs or CDs Al? Note that the CD cases are for three CDs each so some density there.
It’s really nice, you did a good job!
I’m moving to a bigger place in a couple of years and will be having a dedicated listening room for the first time. I’d like some shelves just like that for my vinyl, but with the thick partitions like in the CD sections.
Very nice
Both actually. I am old and I have been at this a while.
Here’s a question related to storage - “back in the day” my LPs all had thick PVC transparent sleeves. The surviving ones still do.
I have tried over and over to find something similar for CD cases, especially to be used for the cardboard cases that many of my CDs have.
Not a chance, closest I could get is the ultra-thin ones that can be sealed once but are flimsy, don’t re-seal, and are just not up to the job of protecting the cases.
Anyone ever find anything like this?
It would be nice to be able to have them all on shelves (as above - it looks grand!).
Those heavy PVC sleeves do damage (put out a gas), reacting with the vinyl, and over a passage of time the LP develops a misty / white appearance and the sound becomes hissy and distorted. I’ve firsthand experience with this!!
I find the cardboard damages the CD over time.
I place the CD in thin plastic cases - which I then slide inside the CD’s cardboard jacket.
LPs - blimey, wasn’t aware of that one!
CDs - yes I shall try that
Turn off for listening, right? RF emissions could contaminate.
Thanks
I’m after protecting the cardboard cases too, though Dirk’s comment above has kinda put me off the idea now
