What a fantastic present!
One of my friends who grew up in the Palm Springs area told me that his dad was a general contractor to Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope.
Sinatra’s first house in the Springs and Hope’s final house are beyond cool. Genius architecture.
Frank’s

Bob’s
I very much like those two buff-and-gray art pieces.
Remind me to close some of my tabs. Seriously, though, congrats on the thoughtful gift and the thoughtful wife.
Frank’s house looks like it could be Richard Neutra. Bob’s looks like a miniature copy of Saarinen’s TWA terminal (or at least heavily inspired by it).
I thought the same. I’m a big fan of Richard Neutra and Eero Saarinen.
E. Stewart Williams was the architect on Sinatra’s first (1947) Springs place.
John Lautner was the Architect on Bob Hope’s final Springs house.
Thanks for sharing !
I particularly like Sinatra’s home.
Latest updates include Jay’s Audio CDT2-Mk3 transport, Rega Aura Phono Pre, and two pairs of AQ Yukon XLR cables between the DS DAC and the BHK Line Pre in and the BHK Pre Out and my LMS (loudspeaker management system). System is really singing tonight. The Jay’s transport is the real deal. For my room and setup it’s about perfectly balanced between smooth and detailed. There are layers and textures I simply couldn’t hear before. No bullsh#t.
Good show, Kurt. It certainly looks mega - like it could withstand a nuclear holocaust, only downside being you wouldn’t have any discs, electricity and no house… Is that the same type transport as used by Steve Guttenberg?
It is the same transport reviewed by Steve Guttenberg. It’s also the one owned by @aangen so top flight stuff for sure. It even comes with a machined aluminum color matched remote that weighs about five pounds.
Edit: As much as I love my PWT (now in the second system) you can’t beat the feel of that machined aluminum (aluminium) top slider when loading and unloading discs.
I keep the remote under my pillow at night in case somebody breaks into house…
Kurt, I own and use a brace of Rega Isis Redbook players. Isis SS & Isis Valve. They are built like battleships.! Weight = 30 kilos. Same type of build with the remote - I could club someone to death with it!
Similar type of loading, manually lift the top loading lid - which is damped and falls back down silently. I might just order the Jay’s Transport…there’s a dealer down in England with them in stock. Is the matching DAC of a similar quality? I see the DAC sports I2S. Only £5,400 for the pair. Al has spent more on the Rabbit guard surrounding his equipment…!
I’ve often thought the same thing about Hegel remotes. I assume they built them for self-defense.
Love the aesthetics of the pre-amp…!
Does it sound as sexy as it looks?
(I know, beauty is often in the eye of the beholder.)
Enjoy.
A good friend of mine has that pre amp and the mono blocks. Incredible sounding setup.

I just received my Jay’s yesterday morning direct from Alvin at Vinshine in 13 days from order to delivery. It is physically a beast. Unless this dealer in the UK is approved by Alvin and Jay. I would order direct. The DAC while apparently good has not been as well reviewed at the CD Transport. If you’re looking for I2S compatible in the same price range I would look into the Holo Spring 3 KTE which you can buy from Magna HiFi in the Netherlands.
Just went back and looked at the specs for the Jay’s DAC and it appears that since the fire at AKM he has changed the basic nature of the DAC altogether. Instead of using the 4499 chipset he is now using the R2R modules from Soekris. How it sounds now would certainly be different and the Holo would be more of a known and also compatible quantity.
It’s pretty miserable comparing the Jay’s MKIII with the PST. The Jay’s punches way way way above its weight. And it’s heavy. Open it up and look inside. It’s really something.
I was surprised at the weight when I unboxed mine yesterday. Looks and sounds great though. I had to have it shipped to Greenville so playing through the Aqua La Voce S3 via AES/EBU. Aqua’s version of I2S is proprietary using RJ45 terminated cable for their transport and streamer. They just announced a stunning looking new transport and only $9800.
