What are the boxes on top of the chassis?
Tip top Vitus Preamp and Amp. Class A all the time. MSB DAC, can’t remember which model. Midpack. It was apologized for but in that setup it was awesome. Reference. That was the name. Stunning system! I had a blast listening to it! Fun.
Sorry, I was wondering about those little black “bricks” positioned on top of the components.
Look like HRS damping plates…
Best,
-JP
@john2213 is correct. Jamie is a HRS dealer. That is a HRS rack and damping plates. There is also a AQ Niagara 7000 in the system. I expect @Vmax @dchang05 and you Luca to try the damping plate tweak and report back soon! Lol
The P20 lids do tend to sing. My DS MK2 is amply loaded with 30 lbs of preamp. So not so much. My McIntosh equipment is solid no chance of singing.
I use Isoacoustics Isopuck70 on top of PST and MS2, and I swear I heard something less. My damping stand for iPad on top of the streamer seems to work even better. They all work better than doorstops.
Al is going to let us know if his SR Tranquility Pod works. Soon we will run out of room to put things on top of gears.
Wow! I have not visited this thread in two years! I missed some fun posts. Thanks Paul to mention me here😆
I am going to try the Tranquility Pod both over and under pieces of gear. Then I am going to try different weighted devices in combination with the Pod. Then, for @dchang05 and @luca.pelliccioli I am going to write different individual letters on different color post-it notes and attach them to my forehead while listening. I will try a variety of positions to see if it makes a change. Special outfits come next.
Stay tuned I always say. Ah the life of a tweaker!
Thanks, Paul!
In your pic I saw them on the MSB DAC and thought they were pretty cool (wondering how they work) but I’m still emerging from another rabbit hole (grounding) with a compulsive purchase coming soon (Black Box) and an eye on the SR buttons (HFT).
Don’t tempt me, I’ve already collected too many presents for Christmas (until our mentor will push me down a brand new and fascinating rabbit hole).
I was just teasing.
I have been leaving my wireless magic Apple Magic Keyboard with a custom McIntosh mouse pad on the lid of P-20 to lgin into bacch4 mac at startup. I guess I should try songs with and without the weight to see if it helps the singing wood and tin can lid on top of my P-20.
Now for outfits. Energizer Bunny or Darth Vader?
Please tell me they don’t do anything! More boxes, more cables, more sockets… I couldn’t stand it!! Not even joking!
I’m more confident in those funny HFT buttons… they are passive and practical!
I had a nightmare that weeds from the yard invaded into my audio system. Then I realized they were those darn green grounding wires. But in reality they are growing like weeds too.
We urgently need the help of our “less is more” friend! Where is Vince? This damn coffee machine shipment is distracting him!
But only while listening to tin pan alley
Sadly I wish that were the case. The inserts from the metal inner liner into the gloss black wood piece are fairly loose on my P-20. If you have a P-20 just rap on it with your knuckles. Sounds like someone stirring the gravy on their snare drum.
He is designing an expresso IV therapy infusion machine.
I’m now using three Synergistic Tranquility Pods in my system–one on my Nucleus+ held in place with little dabs of Bul-Tac, one on my AirLens sitting on Herbies Baby Booties (the Pod on the AirLens over the power supply made a surprising difference) and one under my Active Ground Block SE.
Together, they have made a major cumulative improvement in sound-stage, detail, clarity and bass extension and punch. Overall a very relaxed and natural presentation…
