Yes, no problem that.
@paul172 I am currently running 4 speakers in the ceiling for Dolby Atmos playback.
I had a shall I say “interesting” experience with a pair of NCORE (Hypex) Amps that a friend of mine lent for my surround 901’s. I was planning on returning them that weekend but for fun, I swapped both out with the M700’s that power my front L & R 901’s. The hated 901 “sound” crept it’s ugly head. Ten foot tall vocals way beyond the center of my two speaker, drum kits were like 20 ft. wide, and all the crap that Paul described in the Beer driven Store Manager Video from two years ago.
With the Darren designed M700’s, my 901’s have a gorgeous Soundstage, image like crazy, and deep Bass when called upon. Treble extension too was better than the NCORE’s (not so “nails on a chalkboard” sounding).
Amps matter but input stages matter more (I guess).
I’ve now installed my six 1200’s as a source for my movie theater and for CD listening. When they arrived, the replaced the 700’s. At installment, there were probably only 48 hours burn in via the factory. BUT, I’ve now had them going for about a week and all I can tell you is that music, movies…everything becomes alive. I can hear deep into the sound stage in forte orchestral passages without compression and the subtlest nuances of soft music as in chamber ensembles. My Magnepan demands power! That’s an understatement and these amp gifts to them are just what they need. I know that sound will improve drastically over time but, as it is now, I’m in seventh heaven!
Thanks to Paul, Kevin and the whole PS Audio team for their hard work over the years and the outstanding quality of their products at prices mere morals can afford!
Wow, great setup, I will be receiving 3 M1200’s for my l/c/r next week, I’m keeping 3 m700’s for surround and 2 s300’s for my height. What speakers are you using for your surrounds? Glad to hear your enjoying the M1200’s Happy Listening!!!
I initially had the Magnepan model 12’s which were their intro speakers to this type of model, then I graduated to the 1.7’s and finally to the 3.7’s…the L/R are the 3.7’s and the center is the newish Magnepan center speaker to accommodate the 3.7’s…a few years ago, I looked around to try and get two L/R surround speakers and one Rear…that’s all my room could accommodate…I’ve been following Bob Carver’s work over the years and settled on the three Sunfire’s which will accept 800 watts and probably more…the 1200’s don’t seem to put any pressure on them…I’ve been told that they are not made any more…so, that’s the story: I have a Carada cinemascope screen (7 feet wide) with movable
sides controled remotely, the L/R Maggies by it’s side and the Maggie Center under the screen…all the equipment, the OPPO205 and the amps are under the screen in a modular containment and it’s a very tight fit!! It took me one week and five attempts to put everything todgether including all those cables which cannot be seen from the front but, when looking at them from the rear, they look like a real horror story! But, it all finally came together yesterday. I have the Marantz AV8805 receiver and the JVC Reference Projector to complete the set up along with the DISH receiver. I’m awaiting for the correct ethernet cables for the ROKU device and the Marantz which are coming today…I have tried enough of these cable to open a ethernet store…so…until I pass on…this will be it! I’m getting too old to do anything else…but, you know, with this “hobby”…there’s always something ahead…so…
@edwardweinman nice system, I am also using a Marantz 8805 preamp and a Oppo 205 mainly for cd and sacd playback. I primarily use a Panasonic uhd 9000 for video playback on my JVC projector. I always admired the Maggie’s as I was a long time user of Martin Logan’s over the last 20 years. Last year I auditioned a pair of Legacy Audio Aeris speakers at a audio show and it was all over, to me it’s the best speaker I ever owned, huge soundstage great highs, mid bass and plenty of bottom end. I would love to hear the Maggie’s I can only imagine how they must sound with the M1200’s. I’ll post my thoughts after I get 1200’s installed and burned in.
Wow! 6 M1200s! That’s got to be a new record. Well done. I have been considering a similar strategy in my home theater. Thanks for the heads up.
Hey fishingdude…you may want to chat with Ivan Messer aka Masterlu over at
with regard to your future decision with the new McIntosh MX 170…

Ivan is a very service oriented friendly resource.
Paul, I’ve always had six equal amps for the six speakers in my home. Even back when I had Carver’s one unit 6 channel (I think!) amp which then was traded in for the six 700’s. I wanted the evenness of total sound all around me. The orchestra sound on SACD’s, the surround sound tracks, etc…they all matter to me in terms of total immersion and clarrity. Believe me, I’m not aiming to blow the house down! I always wanted the clarity of the subtitlest chamber music to the density of full orchestra as non congested as possible. The 700’s were great but, even with the limited hours on the 1200’s, they are a revelation!
Thanks to you and your team for a job well done. (And, thanks to Kevin for being in contact about your products as we as being an email friend).
Hopefully you can get a good deal on 'em, Paul
Boy, that’s cool. Thanks for that.
I think Paul will take advantage of a generous trade-in for his purchase.
How much break in time is needed/recommended for the m1200? Separate question/subject here: Is there any use in comparing the m1200s to BHK 300s? I’m hooked up to Polk LsiM705s and I’m not sure I should be comparing these two. I know price isn’t the best comparison factor for performance but I’m assuming PS would not canabalize their own line? M1200s produce tons of power but there’s a difference in the type of sound produce between class D and A/B right? I’m sure someone will tell me it’s all about my ears right or speakers used/type of music listened too…Not an engineer at all and any insights or thoughts here are much appreciated!
200-250 hours on the IcePower module in the 1200’s.
I’d certainly want a week on the M1200s. They are particularly sensitive to break in time. Both the M1200 and BHKs are exceptional sounding amplifiers and, yes, there’s a difference in the sound quality between the two. In a direct AB comparison I prefer the BHK and have kept them as our premier reference amplifier. That does not diminish how great the M1200s are.
Thanks Paul! So 160-200 hours of actual music/resistance right? Looks like I need to give it another 4-5 days or so and have low level. I’m trying to entertain a reasonable alternative (not replacement if I’m honest, I understand the superior quality and build of the bhks) with an addition to our family coming in a few months and trying to keep my lovely wife happy, while also being able to continue this wonderful passion of ours. I’ll give them some more time and reconsider a listening session after the proper break in period. I love this place and appreciate what you’re doing for us! Thank you
Darren has told me that he has proven that it does not require a load (e.g. speakers or other load connected), as odd as that sounds. But it makes run-in time a lot easier!
So when I just was beta-ing the Strata, I’d listened to it/played with it for 3-4 days, then ran music into it via digital and analog sources (not at the same time) for three days 24/7 with nothing on the outputs, and it clearly got happier.
@davida thanks for link, I’m really happy with 8805, I’m just not a fan of the Audyssey room correction. The Mcintosh has that classic look, I could consider the Lyngdorf m60?
