Last leg of the Audio Road trip. It was great meeting @audiojan! Tho we didn’t have much time! When you are in Vernon Hills give me a call!
2001 miles and a couple new toys the trip is complete. I have to get everything hooked up yet. My set up is getting a refresh.
I just checked into the site and it is great to see you’re having a great audiophile trip! Enjoy your new toys!
We’re at the beautiful Lake Louise in Canada now. Too bad we are leaving tomorrow, and I have not met a single audiophile yet🤔
What’s up with the Mk2 observations thread? There are a few hundred new posts since last weekend! I bet it’s the same old noise vs SQ argument again. I will NOT read it fore sure.
Certainly will! Great talking to you (albeit not enough time as I had to get to a trade show and you needed to get back on the road). I’ll give you a call next time I’m traveling to Vernon Hills!
Enjoy the Diablo! That has a very special place in my heart, by far the best integrated (or amp/preamp for that matter!) I have ever had. Wouldn’t have sold if it wasn’t that the Zu’s are simply too sensitive.
Very nice, enjoy the 300s until the day you move on up to Gryphon,
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!! lol… Actually I am waiting for the Integrate amp that can do Room correction for 2.1, and has a 2.1 passthrough for Home Theater. Anthem has it I believe, but want something a bit better. Oh yeah Roon ready with a great DAC in there too.
Two channel is as far as I go. I dabbled in multi channel, and was underwhelmed. I still have mixed feelings regarding a DAC in a serious integrated amplifier. DAC technology seems to continue to evolve at a fast clip. Having a Hegel integrated, I continue to regard the DAC as the weak spot in that particular set-up.
My setup the multi channel is not really for music, its for theater. Way better than just stereo. But it does not hold back my 2 channel. The room setup is primary 2 ch. If that is a detriment to HT then so be it. But so far so good. The CR-1 and BHK Pre have the bypass modes so the 2.1 is great with music and bypass for the anthem to run its thing for movies. I even just got a smaller screen so I could pull in the speakers a bit for better 2 ch. Anthem will go roon at some point so multich then might be in the cards. I used to do that more. not much now.
I’d just say our approaches are different. Movies and HT just aren’t a priority. I enjoy film, mostly art house and film noir. BTW, you do have an extremely nice set-up in a properly treated room.
thanks… swapping out the GIKs for some other better performing panels. Plus way better looking. Will post pics.
Also for 2 channel I do exclusively use Roon, and convolution filter to get that last 20% increase in SQ. Focus Fidelity is the software. Pretty easy to use. I found 5khz and down room correction with the addition of the room treatments makes for a great presentation.
Vicoustic makes good stuff. I have 4 of their Wavewood panels, but “better performing” than GIK, IMHO, comes down to what a given room needs and what a given room treatment’s performance curve is. GIK panels and treatments all have their measured performance available online for review. If other treatments perform better, so to speak, I would offer that it’s not because GIKs do not perform to their specifications, but that it’s more likely the GIK panels used are not the proper choice for the needed treatment. I use both brands, and have used others in the past, so I have no stake really in any of them. But IME treatments chosen for a room will only work as well as what is derived from the acoustic analysis of that room.
For what’s its worth I like my GIK panels.
I like them, I think I am going like the new ones better. If there is anyone in the CT area that may want a good set of GIK, I will be selling. shipping will be killer. Light but big.
Do you have the Grimm up and working?
Has any room acoustic analysis been done on your space?
Now you are telling me? Lol
yeah a company from Europe. via phone pics. my ceiling is low so diffusion up there and back wall (what is exposed, is not that much) I chose the GIK as it was good price and performance. Its pretty heavy absorption. Going thinner and quite frankly better looking. that is a big part of the swap. These stick out 7" and get in the way etc… Just being a bit anal I guess.
