So, how much more would you be willing to pay for a pretty bottom plate you see only when turning the product over?

Not trying to stir the pot here, but I just noticed when sitting in my listening chair I can see the under side of my DSD MkI which sits on top of the PST on cones, on the top shelf of my rack, quite clearly, although even with the silver color it appears to be black because it’s not in direct light. Not sure how the bare metal bottom of the PMG DAC might appear though.
True, It would add to the cost.
I wonder if any of the future professional reviewers will notice.
How much more does it cost to have a clean bottom plate? I would pay that much.
With the already issues including the look of the bottom plate in the first shipment, it’s seems like these could be like beta units but without the usual beta trade in program. Again just my opinion.
How much possibly could it have cost to have sprayed the bottom plate to match the rest of the unit like the bhk and MK2.
Considering it’s the statement range of equipment bearing the CEO’s name surely that’s enough of a reason for the products to be pristine from top to bottom, lest we forget the hefty price of ownership. Excuses never cut it with me. There’s no cutting corners. To use the aphorism “actions speak louder than words” On removal of the PMG from the carton - I would be annoyed at seeing such a messy bottom panel… looking at the advertising photo it shows an immaculate bottom panel.!
I’ve had a look at bottom panel on several pieces of audio equipment including 4 PS Audio products and ‘none of them’ are tarnished nor soiled on the underside … It’s an 8.5k (9k in the UK) instrument it should look 100% beautiful.! Jeez, it beggars belief.
I just looked at the bottom plate of my phono preamp. I was not impressed. But I was also not disappointed. That’s all I expect from any part of a component.
Keep in mind the role of the plate and its finish, per Paul:
“[T]hen the plate has to be refinished with that galvanizing process so it is conductive (for the ground plane) while at the same time protected from the elements. In any case, all that to say we couldn’t paint it because of its role in EMI so it looks kind of ugly.”
In any event, I hope no one refuses to buy the unit because of the appearance of the bottom plate.
It looks beautiful from the front, and if the sound quality is as good as early feedback indicates (and against price comparators), the bottom plate wouldn’t stop me from buying. It’s on my wish list, pending CEO approval and trade-in of BHK Pre.
The bottom plate is not a deal breaker for me. But in comparison to the Stellar, BHK, Aspen, and Perfect Wave components I own/have owned, it does seem out of place and not on-brand. I guess it’s like a really good restaurant with wobbly tables fixed with folded up napkins under the legs, the food is amazing but it just makes you wonder if there are other issues that you don’t know about. Humans are funny like that - we’re built to be suspicious of things that are out of place, no matter how insignificantly the out of place thing actually impacts us.
I doubt the dirty bottom scandal will be anything more than a blip contained to this forum.

Agreed. If it’s the best sounding DAC for the money, I could over look a dirty bottom plate.
If there’s a similarly priced DAC that sounds equally as good that has a more polished look overall, I’d choose that one.
Edit: I forgot this thread is about the PMG pre not the DAC. So will all tthe PMG components have a similar bottom plate?
