I use also jplay (i at this time choose a new power cable for PC, this has a essential impact), it sound very superior than bridge. I hesitate to upgrade, (many forumers speak of setup beeing a bit complicated due to new licence protection and the femto server difficult to map NAS folders for the Femtoserver). A question: Can you go to more than 170 Hz in jplaysettings for communicate with the Direcstream?
In a sense, you are getting a complete new motherboard. Tedās Snowmass code will completely rewire the configurable logic blocks on the FPGA chip making it a completely new product. Much better than soldering a new chip onto a board. Read his explanation where he wrote about FPGAs on the āRedcloud for DS is liveā forum at post 435. Itās fascinating reading if youāre into the ultra technical⦠For me, I think 19 is my new favorite number - which coincidentally is a prime.
Thanks. Yes I do realise. I meant it would be a strip out and change of board as opposed to a major change through firmware rewrite⦠I do get your drift re: FPGA. Itās the fact that we get it for free !!
Thanks for the update. This will be my first DS update and it sounds like it will be one of the most significant updates to date, luckily me! Just curious if there are any other noticeable SQ improvements besides soundstage?
Oh ok thatās good - I didnāt realize there were reviews of more current updates. Based on the way Paul describes your latest revision there should be a lot of buzz - so to speak. Thanks for the hard work. The DS is the best value in home audio Iāve ever experiencedā¦
Agreed.
The DS was a big spend for me but Iād āsidegradedā so often over the years and thrown good money after bad I decided when upgrading my dac I should do it once, and do it right.
To me PS Audio is a special company, with real people at the helm that want to look after their customers.
Not just to make a quick buck, but because they want to.
Its the treatment the DS has had with futureproofing and upgradeability thats made me buy in to what PS Audio do?
My DS will be the first but not the last bit of kit I buy from you guys.
Kudos, job well done Paul.
Thank-you Paul for not pushing this out before it was ready. I must admit that Iām getting pretty exited about hearing this new release⦠once it is ready.
Testing patience by waiting the same hour TWICE.
Seriously, great anticipation and what joy it brings. Huge thanks to Ted, Paul, all.
I agree completely. Make sure itās absolutely right before release. The unwind and trouble is never worth a rushed release.
Iām enjoying my DS Snr very much with Redcloud, and am of course looking forward to the latest update.
I have wondered though: Has anybody every ādowngradedā to the very 1st version; then to the latest again?
I havenāt but am thinking that the difference must be huge - inbetween upgrades incremental yes but cumulatively the naysayers should notice!
I want to hear one of these things so bad. If 6 grand is ever burning a hole in my pocket, I will!
Hi Aliant,
Yes I have used 700hz but prefer 1hz setting though.
Best we communicate on another thread if you want know more
@tensor9: It is possible to purchase these units for significant discounts if you do a little searchingā¦
Paul. This is sick. But I love it. I went out and did my precursory new SD card as I always do. I love this. and thank you and the team for all that you do. Looking forward to it.
I did the same thing. Iāve run out of dedicated SD cards, so I just purchased a few more. I prefer to just have each build on its own card rather than having to overwrite the last OS each time.
ā¦hereās my opinionā¦The DSD, with Redcloud, is good enough for me to sell my analog. This weekend I sold my turntable (VPI Scoutmaster) and other assorted, pretty nice, analog gear. Gonna sell my 500 LPs next. Life changes and when you mass consume music, digital is where itās at. Bring on Snowmass!
BTW, skiing Beaver Creek and maybe Tahoe this year, Snowmass makes me think of skiing!
Whatās your āwinner takes allā on your LP collection?
Havenāt figured out how best to handle the LPs yet. Itās a nice collection, think I might be able to finance an upgrade to BHK 300sā¦life is good!
@amsco15 - I put together a system in May, 2018 with all PSA electronics and kept the top shelf of my component rack for a Basis turntable, knowing I could combine the PSA DS DMP and PSA DS DAC on one shelf and have room for a PSA preamp. I thought the PSA DMP would be the catās meow and Iād buy nothing but SACDs. I began listening to TIDAL with the PSA DS DAC and by September, only had (3) SACDs and (0) CDs bought and was listening to 10 hrs music a day. That was using Mconnect. Then I bought the Roon Nucleus+ w/ convolution filtering capability & HOLY CRAP! I will never own an LP and if the Snowmass FPGA Logicware build is better than the Redcloud build⦠HOLY, HOLY CRAP! I have not even added my AQVOX SE GB ENET Switch yet or finish my 20A single 10/2 romex run or add my SBOOSTER w/ Ultra to the wireless router; or even swap the Kevin Deal BHK tubes yet⦠just amazing! Every day is a Sunday with the PSA DS DAC; thanks to Ted & and Paul. The REL S3/SHO addition in September rounded out the low end, like listening to a pair of amazing speakers. The detail, the separation of instruments and how the subs track the main speakers⦠The choice of Sonus Faber Guareni Evolution speakers was the bomb! I now listen to SQ that is better than my turntable ever was and zero drama. No cleaning, dusting, primping⦠drama!
Digital has arrived! It sure took long enough but the DSD is just an amazing piece of gear. All my PSA stuff.
