The next DirectStream update?

It’s more like adults curious as to the status.

I neither have the DS Sr. nor the Jr. but even I am impatient.

I am anxiously awaiting the next update too but I learned quickly as a child that asking if we were there yet never got us there any sooner.

And then it will be “happy Snowmass” for all us ds and dsj users

So my children, remember what papa said 9 days ago:

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hi All

Well this weekend for me has been very satisfying having taken up the JPLAY Femto upgrade moving from JPLAY 6.2

Each Firmware Ted has put out has left me also very satisfied with improvement in sound. Those on the journey receiving these awesome improvements in SQ, know the incremental improvement, well I can say after implementing the JPLAY Femto was most significant, seriously good, if I was to compare the incremental DS improvements through Firmware, the JPLAY Femto was X 3 or more of an improved sound benefit. I expect from this the new DS firmware is going to be even more impressive because of JPLAY Femto.

I thought I had a seriously good Computer streaming setup, that being a duel windows server 2016 Control PC and an Audio PC both running in core with Audiophile Optimiser and Fiderlizer 8.2

JPLAY Femto has transformed the sound from good to seriously excellent well that’s because of the PS Audio Direct Stream. Obviously, the PC setup was still not that transparent though JPLAY Femto has opened its eyes so to speak – I’m hearing the DS like I’ve never heard it before.

Seriously excited about the pending PS Audio Direct Stream firmware release bring it on

It’s been a long weekend - off to get some sleep after going through all my favourite sounds, I’ll have to do that again when the new firmware drops

All the best

cheers,
John

 We did a lot of long drives for summer vacations when we were kids. “Are we there yet” was a great reminder, thanks. The big problem was may dad liked to “make good time”, which meant long stretches (to us, anyway) between stops. For all I know, it was every two hours. Often there was Mom and the youngest three of the five kids as passengers.

But we would tank up on Coca-Colas at HoJo’s, and hit the road again. The more frequent refrain was, “I gotta pee!!”. Sadly my parents and much of the country at the time, were too Puritan-ish to pee by the roadside. When I saw that later on in Europe, I thought - “Duh!” (smacks forehead).

Just thought I’d offer a little distraction ; )

We have found a winner for DS but have yet to marry it with PIC code. Interestingly enough, it’s number 19 that we find to be best. Darren spent a great deal of time working through this and hopefully on Monday we can add PIC code and do some more listening. I needed the weekend to refresh my ears and will hit it hard then. We still have to go through all of this for Junior. We may release Snowmass for SR first, then follow it for Junior.

Getting close. Listening to Red Cloud in comparison there’s just no contest. I am shocked at how two dimensional Red Cloud now sounds compared to Snowmass. They are not even in the same league, which is crazy because Red Cloud was a HUGE improvement over whatever the mountain before it was.

Ted’s rewrite of the internal upsamplers and the subsequent quieting of the signal path has wrought miracles beyond anything I could have hoped for or imagined.

Can’t wait to share it with you.

Thanks Elk, and thanks to everyone for your amazing patience. I know it’s hard to have to wait but we’ve been bruised and battered over software releases that don’t work and really don’t want a repeat of things going wrong.

Very excited for this release. This would be my first DS upgrade. Can I ask which interface do you usually use for testing? USB? Bridge? Or do you test with all interfaces.

Thanks

It’s great you provide those updates at all, everything else is secondary. Thanks again for this service!!

Exciting news - thanks Paul!

Just wondering do you make the reviewers aware of these updates?

The reviews I see are may updates back.

Since the updates seem to on the magnitude of a new product release I’d imagine you’d want to spread the word…

That’s up to Us…

Wow, Dimensionality improved so much with Huron and Red Cloud that it is hard to imagine that it could get even better. I am so elated that I am the proud owner of a Directstream DAC which is the real gift that keeps on giving! It is so satisfying to keep getting substantial improvements in the performance of my system without having to keep shelling out money for sometimes barely perceptible updates as I have done in the past with other manufacturers. Thank you Ted, Paul and everyone at PS Audio.

It’s incredible that we get this for free…! If this was any other audio manufacturer it would be a new mother board costing thousands. ‘Big thank you to Ted and Paul’

Well, for example in Stereophile:
September 2014: Original DS w/ 1.1.4
February 2015: DS/PWT w/ 1.2.1
March 2015: DS 1.2.1 vs 1.1.4 measurements.
November 2015: DS Yale (with mentions of Pike’s Peak)
November 2016: DS Torreys
February 2017: Some DS Yale vs Torreys measurements
October 2017: DS Huron

AFAIK There was no explicit Stereophile Redcloud review, but, for example Hi-Fi News And Record Review reviewed and measured Redcloud in May 2018

I have about 50 reviews of the DS Sr in my files and eight of the Jr, tho I haven’t been keeping up.

That’ll do.

I seem to recall some reviewer(s?) grousing because it requires too much reviewing ! : )

Which is OK with me actually, as I don’t need to read what they think - I have it here.

We few, we happy few…are lucky folks indeed.
