The problem with this forum

You are right, bad choice! Somehow, I associated vkennedy61 with her, and don’t ask me why.

In no particular order, here is a select* list of acquisitions I blame on this forum (and its dastardly denizens):

  • PSA P3 Power Plant
  • PSA P10 Power Plant
  • A snake den’s worth of PSA AC-12, AC-10 and AC-5 Power Cables
  • Shunyata Research Research Taipan Helix Power Cables (X2)
  • Revelation Audio Labs I2S Digital Cable
  • Pink Faun Interlink I2S Digital Cable
  • PSA Ultimate Outlet (20 A) & associated 20 A custom power cable supplied by PSA back in the day
  • PSA DirectStream Memory Player
  • PSA PerfectWave PowerBase (X4)
  • Synergistic Research Orange Quantum Fuses (X3)
  • IsoAcoustics Orea (Indigo) Vibration Isolators

All of the above were pushed on me by members of this forum, either directly (they made me by it from them) or indirectly (they raved about how “must have” it was).

*and the list goes on…

This is a great place to pick fellow hobbyists’ brains about ideas and options and to acquire previously loved kit at fair prices.

“Pre-” Geriatrics…?

oh, you must try the M-1 fuses and the 3M 7050 absorbent sheet. They are absolutely better than the items you have listed so far. And, I hope you have upgraded your HDMI from the list already.

Looking for the “block” button…searching…looking…where is that darn block @dchang05 option…? :raised_hand_with_fingers_splayed:

Now where did I put that risotto?

Definitely not for me. We’re gonna need remediation.

I should not have an extra shot of single malt earlier. Your nice music taste is definitely not associated with her :leftwards_hand: :love_you_gesture:

omg there is a new p30 in the pipeline …
how many people just went and checked the product page to see …

The interesting thing is remember when PS audio started to align with audioquest in the recommended cables and there was a fair bit of kickback / negative vibe - yet now I feel i need a dragon in my system … This forum is great my system and the changes resulting from this forum or from the seeds planted from the forum have made me just enjoy it all that little bit more
Gareth who in the last 8 months

  • Modded DAC Matrix
  • some 3M RF changes
  • Matrix power supply
  • purple fuses that about three weeks ago where great but now looking at the audio magic website but really no idea why …
  • ICONCLAST Cables for my Rels

I also find the whisky mod to be a great one as well

Nice, and I have a few additions mirrors yours👍

For some reason, I’m associating him with the Kindig Pantera… though I have to admit it’s hard to really get a sense of appearance from a tiny avatar photo.

Is that how he looks? From 20 years ago maybe

I have wanted a Pantera for my entire adult lifetime. But, I know it’s not in the cards any more.

Here’s another item you must have if you’re streaming from a NAS. It literally is a night and day difference in SQ to your system. It is a SR Ethernet switch.

My brother came over and we tested his USB hard drive which uses a couple of the same 3.5" SATA NAS disk as my Synology NAS. It wasn’t even close, the NAS walked all over the USB HD. Then I remember I have the SR Ethernet switch with my NAS, so I disconnected it and now the difference was harder to hear. We had to go back and forth, but the NAS still had the edge. The USB HD was slightly less dimensional sounding. When we put back the SR switch to the NAS, boy, did the sound open up. Deeper soundstage, and more air and space around images! What a difference. My brother is ready to get a SR UEF Ethernet switch and a NAS after what he heard. I forgot to mention that I was also using a WW Platinum Ethernet 8 cable from the SR switch to the server, that might have helped with the sound of the NAS. Next time I will replace that cable with a generic one and see.

Here’s a picture of the USB HD he brought over and my ethernet switch I use.

I’ll never understand why these audio switches don’t have SPF’s in them.

But then again, I am still dismayed at how few audio components use fiber. It’s the 21st century.

Vince, I just picked up the Melco S100. It has SPF in, that can feed 8 ethernet ports (4 high speed Gbit, 4 100mb for lower noise) as well as SPF out. Going to feed it with my media converter and then output to Sonore and everything else I have ethernet. Disconnect the entire system as other things want eithernet in both 2 and surround systems.

Looking at it now. I wouldn’t mind comparing it to my Unifi Enterprise 8 PoE. I don’t need PoE in that location, I just use this model on various points off of our fiber backbone. But, I do like that it’s managed in the same Unifi console.

Brian - does the S100 come with the LPS? I can’t tell from their website. The S10 definitely does.

ut oh, that thing has a touch screen on it… bad mojo for noise right?

The S100 does NOT come with one. There are many sites that sell it with an LPS and higher end DC cable for $3-3.5k. I wanted to see how it did before. And most likely add that later. Not sure why I am waiting I will end up doing it.

But right now I am evaluating the new Cardas. So its in a box waiting. Also, I got a demo for 1900 shipped and no tax. it was supposed to come with stock laptop style power cord. they forgot it. They have found it and are shipping it. So it would have to wait no matter what.

As this thread says, too many things to play with…

  1. Cardas - few more times. Was not feeling well last night so I shut it down.
  2. Melco will be up after that
  3. Vibration Sorbothane on power cords. See what those do
  4. Probably more fuses in Pre and DAC. Not sure I will buy one for the Sonore as I am waiting for the Airlens.

I have recently been in the presence of 116F MBL Speakers. They are extremely easy on the eyes and they sound wonderful! I may prefer them to the 101E model.
