The royal slam

Katy Lied.

At least, that’s what Meghan said she did, allegedly.

It’s still ironic that the monarchy that once burned the White House and ruled much of the world as recently as 1920s has become more-or-less an entertainment for us commoners.

Just another soap opera…

Have you been watching “Your Honour”? It’s really grim but I’ve just about managed, but I could not bear to watch Oprah, and only managed a snippet on the News. What’s more, with that simpering, she can’t even act.

Circling back to music/audiophile subject, I found a great rendeition of “Rule Britannia” by The D-Day Darlings on Qobuz. Having never heard of the song and then realized it’s of patriotic theme, I thought to myself “I’m glad that most of the lyrics for the US patriotic songs are much more reserved - just in case we end up falling like the Brits in the distant future who don’t rule much of anything anymore.”

i have just stuck to reading the outrage on twitter, some for, some against. (don’t the public just love to be outraged - they really get off on it!).

my favourite comment came from Mark Steele (the UK’s third best Marxist comedian*) -
“whoever turns out to be the ‘racist’ member of the royal family, if it is not Phillip he is going to be pretty disappointed”

* second best, and one of the nicest and most caring people i ever met, is of course Mark Thomas, who on discovering he is on the “domestic extremist watchlist” started selling tea towels and aprons with “Domestic Extremist” in large letters.

The finest Marxist comedian is of course Alexei Sayle, who can maybe be found on streaming sites with his classic top 40 single “Hello John, Got a New Motor”

all of the above is true, and i am awake, for now

“They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom” - Mel Wallace! :slightly_smiling_face:

Here’s a Socialist joke:

“The future is already here – it’s just not evenly distributed.”
William Gibson (true)
Mel Wallace’s cousin (false)

Did you know Alexei Sayle has a dacha on the Costa del Sol? He must be one of those more equal than others Marxists.

Mark Steele just makes my skin crawl with self-righteousness.

One of the great movie lines of all time was Paul Whitehouse (Mikoyan) admiring Simon Russell Beale’s (Beria) ability to run and plot at the same time. Armando Iannucci, ever the subversive.

Not my problem.

My favourite joke is probably
“Why do Socialists always drink herbal tea?”
“I don’t know why do all Socialists drink herbal tea?”

“because all Proper Tea is theft”

Boom Boom (as Basil Brush used to say - a much overlooked Marxist comedian is Basil Brush  )

Mark Steele is a bit of a Marmite comedian (our son, when about 10, thought he was funny though - seen him a couple of times at Runcorn’s huge “Brindley Arts Centre” theatre (seats 99 people).

But in all seriousness, I recommend Mark Thomas’s extended shows (not the old standup he used to do) as being excellent, informative, moving, and very very funny.

The coppers who are tasked with sureveiling him all love him too, and regularly go to his shows.

…although he does present the most excellent “Mark Steele’s in Town” which has made me laugh more than most things probably because the quirkiness of each town he visits is the star, not him.

Hebden Bridge eposide was good, and the one in Aldenry (or Sark, or possibly both) was the funniest thing I had heard in a long time.

I think they are all on iPlayer and worth dipping in to.

I’ll stop talking about Marxist comedians now…:

…update on uk citizens reaction to uk royals public meltdown -

“ turn buckingham palace into a princess diana themed gay bar”

possibly the best suggestion yet

i am trawling the cesspool that is twitter so you don’t have to (and you did ask @jazznut  )

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was going to be about UK-made subwoofers. :man_shrugging:

Indeed I would have called such a thread the same

It seems to me the Brits see their monarchy as a kind of non-species-appropriately operated zoo. They know how this species suffers and acts according to the situation, but would miss what they got used to as entertainment for so long if it was shut
