…and then there’s the music. It is really a great set. Always nice to have some Daniel Carter handy for a listen. He played recently with William Parker and Mike Reed at Madison’s Cafe Coda. A fun night!

East Flatbush off New York United is a great track for many reasons. I find it in my Bass playlist; while listing I am fascinated by the flute play.

How do we or can we submit a BACCH Playlist to Qobuz???

Thank You

When you create a playlist they ask if it is private or public and you can keep editing or make it open to editing

Starting out with this tonight. Oh my!

But now New York United!!! What a find!!!

Holy mother of God !!!

It doesn’t lose a lot without Bacch processing. It’s not for everybody, but whoo boy is it for me!

This is still my all time favorite track from one of my favorite albums:

Have it, too, but unfortunately the East Flatbush track is missing on the vinyl…

There’s another thread with such recordings where I mentioned this one 1 or 2 years ago.

I joined the BACCH club this week. My BAACH4Mac Audiophile+ kit arrived Wednesday and Edgar took the initiative to call me Thursday night to start the setup. BTW… kudos to Edgar who is persevering while still recovering from a bout with COVID (lingering cough primarily). The installation process was a bit more complicated than I expected but was well choreographed by Edgar who took the time to explain the steps and answer any questions along the way. Initial setup included configuring a new Mac Mini M2 as well as the BACCHdSP app. Screen shots were taken of key settings to assist in their recreation should that ever be necessary.

For this session, we focused on the digital side of my system; we’ll be addressing the headphone capabilities in a separate session this coming week.

Thursday nights session ran about three hours finishing a little after midnight. We completed the one-time setup steps, created a few filters (with and without head tracking), and listened to several music tracks along the way. I was a little self-conscious about the duration and time-of-day but Edgar provided assurance that his support is baked into their pricing and shouldn’t be given a second thought. It’s very clear that the BACCH technology is his baby and that he wants to do everything possible to ensure each buyer has a positive experience.

I’m not prone to hyperbole and I’m usually skeptical when hearing same from others. That said, the changes the BACCH system made to my listening experience exceeded my hopes and expectations. I thought my system produced a pretty decent sound stage; the BACCH treatment expanded it in all dimensions and provides a much more immersive experience. The locations of performance members are more distinct, precise and reside on an enveloping 3D-like landscape. I was concerned about any detrimental effect the Mac Mini might have on sound quality attributes but I’m happy to report that this has not been an issue at all. The “BACCH-effect” is, unsurprisingly, most evident with binaural recordings. The effect is quite noticeable on other recordings as well without sounding contrived or over-the-top. Live recordings provide a much more “you are there” feeling with the ambiance of the venue much more noticeable. In the past day or so, listening to Eva Cassidy’s “Live at Blues Alley”, Eagles “Hell Freezes Over” and the Neil Young live album suggested elsewhere in this thread were simply amazing in terms of their clarity and sense of venue.

For context, my system has all network equipment (switch, router, modem, Roon Nucleus and NAS) in a separate room. The listening room consists of a dedicated AC line, Furutech NCF outlet hardware, a P20 regenerator, BHK Pre, M300 monoblocks and Kharma Elegance S7 Signature speakers. The pre-BACCH digital streaming chain included an Aires G1 serving as a Roon end point (with Matrix DDC, Pardo LPS, RAL HDMI) and a DSD MK1 DAC (still waiting on delivery of my MK2…). The BACCH system adds a Mac Mini and an RME Babyface Pro FS device that serves to provide connectivity to a variety of interface types. For now, connection is to the MK1 via USB. The room is 11’ x 13’ and well-treated acoustically. Listening configuration is “mid-field”.

Making this purchase decision wasn’t taken lightly. I’ve been very happy with my pre-BACCH system and was reluctant to add a computer to my configuration. Nonetheless, the described capabilities of the BACCH system kept drawing me in. I read/watched anything I could get ahold of and fellow members such as @Vmax @Steve08226 and @aangen have been very helpful with their posts, replies to my questions, and album recommendations (keep ‘em coming!) Incidentally, Theoretica themselves were extremely responsive to several questions I sent (very refreshing these days). So… with a “you only live once” rationalization (and mindful of the Theoretica return policy), I decided to take the plunge. So far - no regrets!

Perhaps we should resurrect @vkennedy61’s Wolf of Wall Street “cheers” graphic from the Matrix DDC thread for future members

Can’t wait for that, because if BACCH can truly make the music from headphones sound like it’s coming from in front of the listener (like traditional speakers) that will be amazing!

@ViperRGD Welcome to the club!

As we said before, we’ve added or swapped cables, amp, streamers, etc etc. for incremental improvements, but adding BACCH to our system was a game changer for us. We never though for the money we have in our system it would sound this good.

We could use all the help we can get from our BACCH Buddies:

We created a Roon / Qobuz playlist named:

“Best Played with Theoretica BACCH”

We made it public, can you folks access it?

PS/ We have no idea how to get this done properly.

Thank You,

Hey Steve - I’ve tried locating your public playlist but no luck thus far. I tried searching both within Roon and in the Qobuz app using the title “Best Played with Theoretica BACCH”. When you created your playlist, was a URL provided? It seems most folks are identifying public playlists using a URL such as: https://open.qobuz.com/playlist/1480937

Not that we saw.

How does one get that?

I am glad you’re enjoying the new toy. My advice is stick with the USB connection and stay away from the DDC i2S. Spend money on the DS MK2 or better cords.

A DDC reclocks the signal and at least with Matrix SPDIF2 it provided enough timing variations to cause the Bacch4Mac to crash at the most inopportune times. Edgar said he had not seen that issue in 170 production units, but only in development. Until me. But he figured it out after many around the clock calls and worked with me patiently . After going straight USB and breaking in the MK2 USB inputs and setting aside matrix the sound differences are slight on a MK2 with galvanic isolation bersus the i2s with Bacch. Edgar is a scientist and cable denier and believes we humans can’t trust our brains effects over hearing but says do what you wish.

I still hear differences with mac mini AC power cord swaps and babyface being powered by a separate LPS or USB cord changes with Bacch4 Mac. In digital audio noise is still the biggest enemy and follow what Ted Smith does since everything seems to matter though some do more.

I still intend to convert The Mac Mini to LPS after i get everything else stabilized. If no change I will stick with AC and shunyata V14 power cord which to my ears and engineer brain is different and quieter. Bacch does improve tonality and timbre and to my ears still reacts with most of the other changes most audiophiles pursue in the digital streaming chain.

Thanks for the great review and I am glad to hear your experiences with this journey and you’re willingness to share. BTW my engineering alma mater wears the rivalry hemet closer to state capitol, but I don’t support the recent sore loser players taking one’s helmet and hitting the opponent over the head with it no matter the mater. After all football is just a game played on a shared field and it is like audio, all is better when sharing our passion and devotion mutually and with respect. Although many of us support a different teams gear there is enough commonality to be friendships , amongst rivals.

Thanks for the reply @Vmax. I’ll likely be decommissioning the Aires G1 and associated DDC peripherals soon. I just wanted to leave the dedicated streamer path up for a bit to support A/B comparisons with BAACH Mac Mini thread. I know that the DSD MK1 USB input wasn’t as good as the I2S options so I feel things should only get better once/if my MK2 arrives  Consensus seems to be SQ using the MK2 USB input is very close to the I2S inputs so I plan to just use USB and keep the chain simple.

I haven’t played with input power on the Mac Mini or the Babyface yet. I’m just using the Mac Mini’s OEM power cord and I’m powering the Babyface from one of the Mac Mini’s USB ports. Not optimal for sure but it’s amazing how good everything sounds regardless. I’m interested to hear how you do integrating an LPS with your Mac Mini. How invasive is the procedure?

I did my undergrad EE work in Ann Arbor and, although living in Florida for the past 42 years, I’ve been a football season ticket holder for the past ten years. I have many Spartan friends (my Best Man is a Spartan alum) and we maintain a healthy but civil banter in the fall. I fully agree with your expressed sentiments and the parallels to our audio hobby community.

BTW… the infamous tunnel is being widened for next season :+1:
