Thanks, guys. I changed the title of this thread to simply Things to do at home and removed the reference to the virus. Constantly reminding ourselves of why we’re at home probably isn’t as helpful as just focusing on keeping a positive outlook.
I’ve decided to double down my efforts on writing at least one chapter a day for my new book, Watershed Evil. I had been successfully procrastinating up until now, but with staying home more it’s time to ramp it up. And ordering a few new albums. And taking home equipment to play with the system.
Here’s my new home schedule to fit in around all the work I have to do for my day job.
Hit the rowing machine for ten minutes before breakfast
Bundle up and walk 1 mile after breakfast
Take a break from work around 10 am and devote two hours to cutting a first draft of a new chapter
After my 1 pm 20-minute nap, an espresso and add in the color and setting for the chapter
One hour before dinner, edit the chapter
Decide with Terri what new album to order
I’m also going to squeeze in a lot more home listening and tweaking of the system. What a great opportunity to bring some new kit home and play. I was always too busy to do it just for fun.
My problem is I am stuck in my house in the mountains in Arkansas. We bought it last fall and I haven’t had a chance to put in a decent sound system yet. I am limited to headphones off my iPad, they are Shure SE535s through an AQ Dragonfly Red though and sound quite good, or, horror of horrors, the Sonos Soundbar in the bedroom. I know Paul and company would gladly help me with the problem but I need to do a lot of thinking about where to put the system and what I can get away with for visuals.
Thanks for posting that wglenn. Now I can get the plinth the color I wanted. Cherry is a pretty wood but I’ve always liked the darker color as it ages. That lye looks like 50 years of sunlight.
Alternating between listening to music with my PS Audio Stellar M700s, watching movies, playing music (trumpet), and handling communications for a local hospital in the midst of this crisis. That latter one is real fun these days.
Looking out the window, it has started to snow here in Madison, WI. Our firm, though small (8 people), decided to temporarily close offices. All the staff is working from home now.
Last night we put together an Irish playlist and danced the night away. I think my system was happy to stretch it’s leg’s for the first time in a while. We should all dance more often.
I retired as a Primary Care Doc in November so right now I am trying to work out what I can do to be useful given that I am also supposed to be self isolating because I am immunocompromised. Its all very frustrating, so yesterday I spent about 6 hours sitting in front of the fire listening to some tunes and integrating my new twin BK electronics subs ( thanks, Paul, saved me a mint on new speakers and transformed my sound).
I also spent some time fiddling with some photos taken on a trip up north the other week ( Scottish Highlands).
Great shot. I can feel the cold. I had the same experience when I got my M700s. They transformed the sound and showed I could put off a speaker upgrade. I went ahead anyway because, why not?
Take care of yourself. It sounds as if you have done your part over your career already.
Cheers Terry. My son is a first year medic studying at St. Andrews University and, like all the students, has been sent home. He has brought back my good cardiology stethoscope just in case…
My daughter-in-law is a director at a hospital in Columbus, OH. She has been told that all time off has been suspended until further notice. Luckily for now, it’s a children’s hospital. It could be called into service for this if it accelerates. I fear for her safety.
One of my favorite Clarence Clemons quotes is, “Always order the good wine”. I think it’s time to open the good wine. We have a bottle of this we have been saving.
