Milled aluminum was my first choice as well. PS Audio was willing to go along and we priced it. The net result is that that would have about doubled the cost and hence about doubled the price. For little (if any) audible advantage that didn’t seem in keeping with PS Audio’s value for the money style. I want to give people the most tech for the money: as much as I like milled aluminum, there’s a lot more improvement in sound I can do with the budget skewed more towards function than toward looks.
Quick question, is the bridge III coming to the TTS, or would be available sooner as an upgrade to the current DS line?
A post was merged into an existing topic: What Are You Spinning Right Now? (Mk. 2)
I agree with you Ted that sound quality is most paramount. Maybe some high quality automotive custom paint for the box and some really nice exotic hardwood options for the top cover. Could make for a really nice finish without breaking the bank…
Once low rate initial production kicks in, I humbly volunteer to do an extensive user evaluation. Say 5 or 10 years in my home system. No pushing and shoving now, the line forms in the rear!
I don’t know the timing of the various streaming related products vs the TSS and I’m not sure I’d believe any prediction anyway. Either project could easily have delays or pleasant surprises where the stars align.
Bottom line, if Ted designed a dac in a paper bag I would buy it.
At the end of the day, it is the performance that matters. Expensive case design work for amps or dacs is rarely linked to performance — just cost.
I’m not a big fan of the new design yet…but want to see what it looks like fully functional until passing judgement.
Bridge III is not coming to TSS. TSS will need the new Octave streamer to get connected to the internet.
Same basic position as always but it’s hidden behind the glass. The entire glass panel is a touch screen. Just touch the area where the blue PS logo would be (we’ll give you plenty of touch area) and the TSS will gently come to life.
TSS will be two identical boxes that sit aside (or on top) of each other. One is for digital, the other analog.
Just to be clear, the top is not painted as the PerfectWave products are. The top and front touch screen are all glass.
The top is glass not painted.
@Paul Thank you very much for sharing some light and set the path for my next purchase.
Looking forward for when the Octave is out and put at rest my audio pc along with all the cables and crowd of boxes meant to upgrade the audio path to the DS Sr…
What is the height of this and will it have pre drilled holes for aftermarket feet (Still points, etc)?
magicknow
It’s about 6" tall. Regarding the pre-drilled holes for aftermarket feet, I think the jury is still out on that matter.
Our mechanical engineer is out of the office today I think so I won’t be able to check with him until next week.
I sure hope you decide to do the pre drilled holes, I think you finally added then to the Power plants.
I use Stilllpoints under the P10 and the Direct stream and in both cases they make marked improvements.
I don’t know why you would not do this?
magicknow
Do you want threaded holes, and if so at what size and pitch?
And depth - the circuit board is above the back feet.
6 inches for each chassis?
12 inches total.
The DS is about 4 inches tall so 3 times the height required?
I’m sure Ted can chime in with more info on how the space will be used. I believe it’s primarily to fit things like the power supplies/transformer and to isolate the boards from each other.
