I have macbook pro feeding DSD Sr using USB connection and all was working great till yesterday.
I got this today (not sure what the red symbol is bottom left hand corner). Please help if anyone else has seen this and solved
Red means it sees no signal. Green is normal. Try another cable, preferably one that meets the USB spec.
Like what @brett66 said try a different cable and try a different USB out on the Mac.
This was probably already done but a complete power cycle on DSD and MacBook doesn’t hurt either,
All, a reboot of MacBook and DSD Sr fixed the issue. Should have done just one reboot at a time to check which one fixed it or if both reboot are required. Thanks all again
Happy to hear the music is flowing once again,
Mister Ambassador
Computers, Always start with a reboot/power cycle!
And by the way, the red symbol at the bottom left of the screen is the mute button. Red means it’s muted, green means it should play.
thanks @jamesh
On Jan 1, 2022 I had the same problem. Both my mac pro and mac air that I use via USB to my Directstream DAC quit showing the PS Audio USB driver and I could no longer stream radio or Quobuz. I tried re-booting the computers several times with no joy. Then I found this forum and this thread and simply re-initialized my DAC and now all is good.

Hello
I am having trouble with my USB connection too.
I’m running from my MacBook Pro USB-C to the Perfectwave Directstream DAC. I tried my iPad too. My Mac recognizes the DAC and my DACs USB light is green. But no sound. I have rebooted both devices. Upgraded my Mac. Reset the T2 security chip. Many different variations. If Spotify is playing and I switch from the PS DAC in my menu to the internal speakers they don’t play. When I turn off the DAC they will. Something is clearly in conflict. Any ideas?
Thanks
I moved my entire studio around and brought my MacPro close enough to use that as my source. It worked. But this set up is not ideal and I would really like to figure out why my MacBook would not work.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
So the problem is specific to the laptop? That makes me think it’s cable related. Possibly a shorter cable will allow playback.
Hi James
I don’t think it’s the cable. The one running to the MacPro is much longer.
The difference may be the USB port. I have a USB 3 on my MacPro and used that. The MacBook only has USB C.
I thought I had updated the unit but apparently it didn’t work. I’m still on Snowmass 3.0.5 the latest is 3.0.7. Maybe 3.0.5 doesn’t work with USB C?
I tried a few times now to install the new firmware but it’s not working for me.
I’ll do more research on the that process.
Thanks for your suggestion.
Tom
I figured out my firmware error. The Fat32 formatting. I’m now up to date with 5.0 Sunshine. Still no sound. The systems recognize each other but are not cooperating. I guess I’ll buy a new USB C to USB 3 cable and see if that is it.
With the latest firmware installed even my MacPro won’t play now. Two hours of joy for ten hours of futzing. I should have left well enough alone. My hair is falling out. I will call support again tomorrow. I hope they can help.
