I’m a bit frustrated right now with my Direcstream. My bridge is now freezing almost immediately after a reboot to clear the last freeze. So I came to the conclusion time to move on to USB an wait on a fix from Ted either firmware for the Directstream, or the bridge. Now no sound out of the USB, I have a green light. Rebooted the Directstream and the IMac server, no luck. I’m shutting down the Directstream and I leaving it this way overnight. I just hope I can use the DAC tomorrow.

Yes, I did try that Ted thanks
Did you upgrade your Bridge to 2.15 right before you did the DS upgrade or some time before that? If before, were the PWD and Bridge performing normally? Just wondering if an incomplete Bridge update could be partially responsible (wouldn’t seem to explain the USB problems).
I got Bridge freezes with JRMC ver.131 for Mac.
Went back to ver .124 and no more issues.
I suspected JR because it also froze at the same time.
Gordon, I can’t find a way to back down to the previous release in JRiver. Also USB still down, I can stream to other devices but not to Directsteam. Something here is hosed more than a Jriver release. I’m going to power down the DAC and leave it over night. Hopefully the Mother’s Day fairy will come by and wave her wand and fix my DAC.
not sure that will help but worth a try. Unplug all cables power/interconnect/USB and ethernet.
2nd would be the Bridge firmware. Dennis can give you one that overwrites the same version Monday.

Perhaps yank the bridge out and retry it.
Some good news, no great news. To start off with I’m now on release 124jriver thanks Gordon I appreciate that. Now I’ll try out the bridge on the freeze issue. Onto the USB issue. I couldn’t leave things alone last night and discovered optical was working. That pointed me to my input to USB. I contacted Jesus from Sonore this morning, Mothers Day, and he has me up and running. I don’t know what happened to cause the Sonore Orbiter to if you will loose it’s mind, but were good. I don’t know if all those reboots of the Directstream/bridge issue caused the problem or what. But Jesus accessed my Orbiter did some magic, I rebooted the Directstream one more time and here we are loving life. I will follow Gordon’s suggestion and keep an eye on the bridge. But right now I will just sit back with my coffee and enjoy Directsteam USB.
…He works in mysterious ways.
woot said Perhaps yank the bridge out and retry it.My kit arrives in my hands tonight. It's waiting for me at the local FedEx, and depending on what time we roll back into town after our 6 hr drive back from LA, I may attempt to actually install it.
One thing I’m questioning though is if I’m going to reinstall the bridge or not, or simply wait for the Bridge II to come out before I walk that path again.

Earlier this am I had a problem with my Orbiter that Jesus took care of. Jesus emailed me back about an update for DLNA via Sonicorbiter package. Jesus set me up with DLNA via USB out of the Orbiter. Its DLNA but the renderer is MPD. Using DLNA Jrvier Mac the SQ is fantastic. I move via Jrmote through various sample rates and get immediate results in music play. Also no gapless issues. One side note I had an issue playing streaming radio via DLNA in Jriver with SQ. Thats appears to be resolved with this Jesus magic.
@tpauline: I went ahead and installed mine but considered going without. I had some freeze-ups on the third day for which I had to reboot the DS but it has been behaving well lately. In any event it is easy to back up if you install it and I plan to take it out at some point to compare the other inputs with and without the Bridge in place. For now, though, I’m just listening as is via the Bridge.
Gordon, The bridge froze again on Jriver release 124. So I’m sticking with usb where I have a solution. Yesterday this was a big deal. Today since changes to my Orbiter via usb not a big deal at all.
Sorry to hear that. I would submit a ticket to PSA in case this is a commonly reported bub.
actually, if I read correctly, it is a screen freeze, not the Bridge since music continues to play?
Turned on the DS last night, turned on the amp and preamp. Note: my electrostatic speakers need a signal input to turn ‘on.’ Nothing! No sound. Zip. My wife is hitting me over the head to switch DACs to the DLIII, but I really don’t want to do that. Frustrated, I reboot the DS. Twice. Nothing. Gaah. Switch to the DLIII and watch the streaming program on Netflix. Switch back to DS. Still nothing. Oh. Wait. It’s really at a low level.
Oh yeah. I tried to ‘burn in’ the DS by putting it in ‘attenuate’ mode the previous night and feeding it tracks via the Bridge. Forgot to get it out of that mode and there was no indication on the display that it was in that mode, nor was there any means on the front panel to get it out of that mode, nor did a hard reboot get it back to ‘nominal’ levels. Had to get the remote and hit the ‘filter’ button several times (even with remote 18 inches away from the front panel) When I initially started the stereo there wasn’t enough signal to turn the speakers ‘on.’
My goof. In sheepish mode again.
But I finally got it to work. Bliss.
OK, suggestions for the next firmware upgrade with regards to implementation of ‘attenuate’ mode:
-
Let me know on the front panel it’s in this mode somehow, either with a separate icon or something to remind me that I was a dummy and left it there. Right now there’s nothing.
-
Let me get it OUT of that mode via the front panel touchscreen. If I lose the remote, I’m stuck.
-
Change Power On Reset to get it out of that mode when a hard reboot is performed.
Also, here’s a suggested change for the ‘mute’ function. True, it changes the little pad on the lower left corner of the screen from green to red in ‘mute’ mode, but that’s not readily obvious for a novice user across the room. Can we perchance have a large speaker-with-diagonal-slash icon somewhere on the screen when ‘mute’ is selected?

From the owners manual:
“To turn on/off the output attenuator, press the filter button on the remote. Or, go to the setup screen which is accessible by touching the small tool icon at the top of the default screen.”

First, I also have sometimes no response pushing the filter button on the remote to return to full output mode.
Actually, that option was a suggestion I made the first test day since the volume increments are painfully slow. I had to go from 100% vol to zero every time my honey asked a question. [ or I would not be able to answer FAST enough : >}}.Dennis picked the filter button since it was no longer required. Why it is intermittent now I don’t know but this should be looked at as well as perhaps cutting the increments in half.
As for the indications on the panel:
Some operations are programmed by Ted and then the panel integration by Dennis. Every change has a potential to, [well, we know what] so Maybe a short winded bullet-point list on a separate thread would make it easier for the engineers to understand and coordinate. Some things can possibly be done at the same time like the mute and -20db indications?
OK, is that a frog or a chicken in your pic? Maybe a baby crok?

Note the very non-standard pieces in the dragon’s right wing just above the mounted riders, on the left wing around the totem-face, and just near the top of the dragon’s left wing at the castle. Pain in the #$%^&@. Out of print now.
This is what it really looks like after I put it together:
