Ted, as I mentioned in my earlier post (Was Upcoming DS release - Now Windom has been released), my initial loading of Windom from Snowmass 3.0.6 (without power off after the update) resulted in an unlistenable gritty version of Windom with shrunken sound stage, and most of the music energy coming from the mid driver - very unpleasant, and probably explained the shrunken sound stage as the music no longer came from behind the speakers but rather came loudly from the middle of my speakers: the sound image was essentially broken.
Then, I decided (as many suggested) to load RedCloud, followed by Windom, removal of the SD card, and, as you yourself suggested, powered off/on the DAC after the update.
The last step resulted in an immediately, noticeable beautiful and listenable version of Windom.
No need for any burn-in period whatsoever - it was immediately perfect.
Yet, in both cases, the s/w version numbers displayed on the screen were exactly the same.
So, is there any way for you to update the code so that DAC starts from a clean slate memory wise each time a new firmware is installed so that we know for sure we got the right s/w running in the DAC?
Right now, I suspect I have the “correct” Windom version because it sounds much nicer that the previous one, but there is still a small amount of doubt: did I get it right completely?
Just wondering if there anything you can do to make firmware loading experience more robust…
