No, I meant it as written. “I prefer” is a statement of opinion, not commentary.
Another .5 psi in the tires?
My second time on these types of cars. I have to get a good insert poured as I am not comfortable.
I finished 2nd twice, to the team owner, my friend Brian (red suit) is a fantastic and very skilled driver.
USAC National Champion 1996 and 1997. IRL driver for various years, tried out the 500 a couple of times; raced NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck series + ARCA. He is a Hall of Famer also.
As he will tell you, " i have been airborne upside down more than 100 times "…
Of course. But it is your first sentence which is suprising. But, it’s your post so we will go with it.
How much faster in the hands of a capable driver?
@Elk at a track with long straights such as Daytona I’d say maybe 0.5 secs or more per lap. At a tighter more technical track (Sebring/Road Atlanta/ The Glen) even more.
It is not only the speed of shifting (thus more time under trust), there is something else at play, the capacity of shifting mid turn with a loaded chassis hardly losing any thrust versus, having to short shift to avoid a mid turn slide or spin.
I can elaborate if needed
edit: i have raced the same car with sequential and later with a conversion to paddles but not stick shift to sequential or paddles.
I race a 911ST and a prior car had a dogbox on it. Just removing the clutch from the equation gained us a second at Road Atlanta. Not legal for racing vintage so back to regular syncromesh.
Wow! Huge difference.
Thanks, very interesting.
My “sportier” vehicle has an automatic transmission, the other one a cvt, lol
Here’s the beauty of paddles around Sebring. First on my 2016 R8LMSGT3
Now on the 2014 Porsche 997 GT3R Evo Paddles
997 GT3 GrandAm sequential stick
Now a time machine back to 2010 with my manual 911R spec 2 liter (DOT tires)
I’ll post one more from the past which was a lot of fun. If the owner of the 997 is here, please accept my apologies, my 2 liter was in a hurry!
I would love to have a sequential box.
It’s like using stock power cables.
Very cool. I might be able to give up audio for this! WOW very cool!
When the lights turn green on your first race it’s better than sex.
Racing makes heroin addiction look like a vague wish for something salty" Peter Egan
Slicks are addictive and they make expensive components seem cheap.
As I told a guy currently racing a Miata that stopped to checkout our stable; there will always be a faster, cooler and more expensive car out there. Pace yourself…
Back in December I traded my 6 year old CR-V on this ‘24 Accord Hybrid Touring. The goal was to get a quieter ride for road trips in retirement. After a 10-day trip to Florida this month, I think it was a success.
I’ve done many track-day miles in my life, but I always knew I didn’t have the talent to be a genuine race driver. I still got the awesome high of the track experience though.
My friend Doug is not on the forum. Al gave him the title of “Golden Ear” because he can hear everything but back on topic he does a lot of factory performance driving events. He knows he not going to be a race car driver but he loves the experience and pays good money to partake in those events. And to keep to the car theme he has a really nice 2019 Mustang Bullitt. (W/proper manual transmission) I’m not a big Mustang guy but that car is very nice!
He just texted me saying the computer on the car needs to be replaced. $1600🤦🏻♂️
