We also love cars

How about the Triumph TR4 and TR6…

How I would like to have had a TR6 one back in the day…

Loved how they would hunker down and go…

I once had a friend with a moded Ford Anglia with a Cortina
GT engine with Weber carbs and headers…fun little bugger…

71 TR6 that was my grandmother’s and I inherited after my dad passed. Currently in the garage awaiting a new head gasket. Definitely fun to drive.

I also enjoyed the Sunbeam Tiger II (200 HP in a 2,600 pound car).

And here is the other project car. A 64 Dart that I’ve owned for 25 years. Also in the garage awaiting transmission work.

Mom had a 66 Dodge Dart, " tough as a tank" could not be broken
no matter how hard I ran it…I don’t think today’s sedans could withstand
what all our Dodge Dart got.

An interesting thought.

I bet a Honda or Toyota would survive.

No Elk…they would not tolerate the rough roads sudden dips with
the chasis crashing down on the uprise side of the dip at 75mph…
Not even…

Oil pan ripping out type of impact…Dart soldiered on unharmed…
great respect for that Dart…

Was a way of life for the Dart…

It would be an interesting experiment.

It would but unlikely anyone would subject their beloved 66 Dart
and someone else their late model Honda or Toyota be subject
to with the thrashing our Dart got…
Try over revving the engine to get a miniscule edge or slamimng into first at 40 or revving up and slamming the tranny into gear…valves never floated or a rod let go or a tranny blow up…today’s cars will not allow overeving (deep red lining) rev limiters…

Just had to git after the SS 283 Impala…54 years ago…

Life today is far cry of that young stupid and foolish kid of yore far away and long long ago… …

It is hard to seriously over rev a modern car without some creativity, and neutral drops and the like are no longer possible.

We know the modern Japanese cars are far more reliable, and many on the road have not been cared for. But I have no idea whether an older car’s oil pan is stronger or less strong than that of a modern car, etc.

There is a set of roller coaster swells on a county road near a couple of miles from where I live which everyone knows will launch your car into the air if you drive it at a good amount over 55 MPH. The cars slam down, sparks flying. I have neither seen nor heard of a car which did not continue on its way - other than when the driver loses control . . .

Okay pal you fetch the cars and run em through a torture test…
55 ain’t 75…lot’s more energy at 75…

Long long ago and far far away…

Happy trails

That’s because there’s no point revving the engine past where it’s making power. (if it’s bone stock)

With that being said, the modified ECU in my '02 Lexus LS430 bumped the rev limiter up 400 rpm because with the tune, the engine still makes power all the way up to almost 7000 rpm instead of the stock 6500. And I hammer this car all the time, with 204,000 miles on the clock, and it never flinches.

In fact, I have a modified valve body coming for the trans to firm up and quicken the shifts. Also looking into headers and a stand alone computer for both the engine and trans.

Except I should say stock not modified…apply same mods to 66 Dart
tougher still…

Also if you drop shift at high rpm today’s box stock today’s Accords or Camrys …
for sure there will be transaxle damage if not the entire drive train damage.
More even repeatedly like mom’s 66 Dart…

Even our 63 Chevy II could handle that thrashing periodically…

I have a Camry now and would never even dream of drop shifting like Dart or
Chevy II…

Happy trails

I liked the gas turbine powered Dart. It was going to be the wave of the future.

273? Sweet little car.

Those 273 Commando engines were a hot little small block

Seriously though, why even talk about such things? Who cares about the many attempts to damaging a car, its engine and its transmission?

It’s not “cool” to be bragging about deliberately abusing your mother’s vehicle. It certainly doesn’t make people think you’re a good driver or anything.

I was brought up to respect other’s property, and to respect my own for which I have invested my own hard earned money into. Not once have I ever even considered “drop shifting” a transmission.

Deliberately trying to destroy a vehicle is just immature and pointless, and certainly not impressive at all.

It’s no fun being responsible. Especially when you’re 16 lol.

I doubt a modern transmission will allow you to perform a neutral drop.
