For all practical purposes… Yes. And I never drove my parents vehicles. I worked, saved up, and purchased my own, on my own. Also paid for my own insurance, maintenance, etc, etc. I valued and took care of my vehicle, and still do to this day.
Not sure if this has been covered before but what was your first road legal car? Growing up in farm country we had field cars and dune buggies but my first car with license plates was a 1957 Chevy 4 door that I paid $75.00 for. The cast iron powerglide trans was bad so I converted it to a manual trans. It used a quart of oil for every tank of gas but was an indestructible car and survived much abuse from me.
You got that right. They were blazing fast but didn’t corner or stop worth a damn. A good friend had a Road Runner with a 383 in it and it wasnt nearly as fast as the 440 but still big fun for a teenager to get to ride in. Another friend had a '69 Z28 Camaro with a 302 and a 4 speed. That was a lighter car and was fast but still nothing like the torque monster 440’s were. The Michigan State Police had 440 interceptors with 2 four barrel carbs.
My grandfather passed away in 1981 when I was 16, and I got his 1975 Dodge Dart. Slant six. Rust colored with a beige hardtop. Anemic at best. Replaced the air filter and it ran a bit better, I recall.
Sold it to get a crappy 1977 VW Rabbit, and that started a streak of consistently owning at least one VW, a streak that continues to this day. (But which might end tomorrow if my R32 sells!)
