We also love hi-end watches

I picked up this VAER watch; assembled in USA (southern CA) w/ time piece from Japan. I bought this watch at the beginning of SEP, 2021 and set it to the atomic clock (NIST). I just checked it today and it has gained 8 seconds. I have a $3,000 Rolex and like this watch 100X more. This watch is also tested to 100m, not the design, each watch. I have logged 100,000+ yards swimming in this watch w/ zero issues. It is so nice to buy a time piece with great accuracy, thin, small diameter, for a little over $100. The design has gaskets for rear entry face w/ gasket behind adjustment screw.

VAER - S3 Field Watch

Richard is back! Richard is back! Richard is back!
Nice watch, Richard.

@RonP - this watch is nicer than my Rolex, unless I’m snobbing it, then it’s the Rolex… daily driver is the VAER…

I have one of these on order:

Don’t we all. How long have you been on “the list”?
What dial? I love the black but they’re all gorgeous.
The secondary market has “softened” a bit but they’re still ridiculously overpriced there; often double list price or more.

Mine. Love it and I’ve turned down triple list. i’ll will it to my son.

that VAER is awesome.

I’ve got a dozen mid-level watches, including a couple Seikos and a Cyma (Rolexes and TAG Heuers are cool, but never really wanted one), but I hardly wore any of them while home during the pandemic.

Also never wanted an Apple Watch, what with all my others… but I’ve been walking so much, and now doing yoga, that I kind of wanted to track fitness, etc…

Finally got one, and embarrassingly, i LOVE it.

I like the VAER watch and it’s face, a tribute ( or knock off ) of earlier military watches, like the IWC Pilot series. Love the simplicity and legibility as these eyes need now need it. Bought an Apple Watch 7 recently for the same reason and wanted some additional cardio functions. Like it so far.

@straightwire - I bought an Instinct (Garmin) for all the cardio data collection using Garmin connect. Resting HR, sleep, HRM, cycling data tracking… after 3 months, back to VAER watch for simplicity. All that data told me the same thing day after day and I track data when I train w/ cycle computer or Rouvy (virtual cycling on my Hammer trainer as shown below)… I cycle virtually all over the world so my data is saved and transferred to Strava where I collect it… so the Instinct gives me sleep data that I don’t really need. The iPad controls the smart trainer (Hammer III); while my iPhone casts a cycling race onto the 65in flat screen, and my Bose surround sound plays music from my Oppo (in this case Pandora). The 2in X 6in framing (wall and attic) are sprayed insulation so that room is sound proof enough so I can crank it up when rolling. There is a fan in front of trainer, controlled by my HRM (Heart Rate Monitor). In addition, I have a ceiling fan that is remote controlled. The recumbent is my wife’s bike. The platform my Hammer is sitting on has left/right rotation (10degrees) and back and forth motion (front to back). It is a Saris MP1 platform. When I get out of the saddle, the platform moves quite freely… like riding live; very cool.

I’ve loved watches since I got my first when I was in the second grade. It had a mechanical movement (because I’m old ). This is my latest and probably last one. I love the simplicity of it.

Very nice Explorer

Thanks, I should have given the crystal a quick wipe before I took the picture.

Do you know the year?

I got it about two years ago. It was fairly new because it’s a 39mm and has the longer hands and illuminated 3,6,9 markers.

Impressive cycle setup and monitoring system. My last upgrade to my bike was Kysirum aluminum wheels on a all carbon Kestrel. Wish I had your discipline. I’m pretty much a fair weather, week end rider but I do work out every other day. Resting HR is high 50’s, but you will live to be a 100.

@straightwire - here is my cycling workshop to work on my bikes. I wax the chains to…

Cervelo P3-C
Trek Project One
KTM
I cast iPhone (GCN+ cycle racing) to 40in FS to watch Spring Classics as I work on my bikes

My resting HR is 25bpm (wakeup); when training a lot (300+mi a week cycling, right now), my HR is really low in the 20s… I like Kestrel bikes, they are really nice

My chain cleaning and waxing station

That garage is ridiculously nice!

There was a time when I had more watches than audio equipment. I was fond of Audemars Piguet. I’m back to Rolex for daily wear.

25!!! Be careful to stand up slowly!

@amsco15 - the other bays — the tool chests are on rollers so I can open the plantation shutters to clean. I did all the installation and shutters… was a lot of fun. Laid it out in CAD, then built it…
