I recall, in my earliest years, the regular âvarietyâ shows the Beeb used to serve up, with such a wide range of artists too.
I donât remember Jake T on the TV but of course Richard Stilgoe was an institution for a while there.
In the late 90s (or early 2000s) Mitch Benn (who I also think is very good in his comedy musical genre) had a late night radio 4 show âMitch Bennâs Crimes Against Musicâ.
A running theme throughout the series was Mitch Bâs Nemesis being Richard Stilgoe - until the last episode where Mr. Stilgoe showed up and took over. Entertaining stuff (though you probably had to be there).
For some reason I associate Jake Thackeray with Dave Allen - whose show I watched whenever I could get away with it
He had two spells on the TV, first time in the late 60s / early 70s and his second stint in the early 80s. You are indeed correct he was on the Dave Allen Show âŠYes - Richard Stilgoe - another one Iâd forgotten about. I am 68 years young; you wouldâve been a mere kid back in the late 60s / early 70s when he was on the TV with Richard and Linda, etc.
This was the show that introduced me to Loudon Wainwright III - another wacky individual.!!!
Loudon had a couple appearances in the tv show M.A.S.H. - and his kids hate him. Thatâs all I know about him
Really! Why does Martha hate her old man. He divorced their mother hence broke the family ?
I dont know! Sheâs written songs about him though⊠not flattering ones.
Oh, I almost forgot another thing I know about Loudon. He was born right here in the town I live in.
Had my reservations about listening to this, but gotta say Iâm really enjoying it. Donât know if theyâll ever recreate the lightning in a bottle that were Fever to Tell or Show your Bones. But this is great.
how is that new Daniel Lanois? I havenât fired it up yet
