What are you spinning now? (Mark 4)

Qobuz. HR. Pleasant. Good sound. Unexceptional.

Qobuz. HR. A modern composition without any modernistic nonsense to it. It is similar to Romantic-era ballet scores and should not ruffle any feathers. One can easily imagine a ballet being performed to it. I can understand why Talbot has had mainstream success with his music. Good sound. Despite its being out of era for me I enjoyed it.

Not listened to this in ages.
CD just arrived a couple of days ago - the second hand CD market is so very cool at the moment
Very laid back, perfect for a summery day with the “French Windows”* open

  • I am advised that French Windows, like French Fancies, are not a thing in France…

This was NPR’s Jazz album of the year in 2019 (By a wide margin according to Stereophile May '20). I don’t see it, first few tracks are not my thing then it seems to settle into more likeable stuff by my standards. Seems Zappa was doing stuff like this a long time ago. Maybe some of those more expert in the medium can help me out on what I am missing. On Qobuz in 24/96

Not listened to this for a while, always preferred Yoshimi…
…it is nice enough though if you like his kinda whiney vocals, keeping me amused whilst I furtle at the dining table

I had forgotten about Finley Quaye. Took a bit of searching but I knew I had a CD copy somewhere!
Do you buy secondhand discs from Musicmagpie … (Zoverstocks). I’ve bought quite a lot of CDs from them, all in excellent condition - with some only costing a few pence!
I acquired ‘thousands’ of LPs in the late 80s through the 90s when folks were selling their vinyl collections wholesale for next to nothing. Now de rigueur with many LPs worth a small fortune!!

Yes music magpie usually via Amazon, one or two others come up a lot in my searches too, and almost always cheaper than the same second hand CD in eBay, except for some “rarities” by which I mean not around and nobody heard of them, rather than sought after and valuable.
I do occasionally search for a vinyl copy of “The Elephant Table album” (always expensive) and did for the Shamen En-tact successfully ish, but otherwise I stick to CDs.
Just looking for cheap and interesting SACDs too to experiment with the Sony Blu-ray, but only need a very few to explore this hardware’s capabilities

I appear to be rambling - must be nap time!

Wife is on a Zoom call so I needed something I could play at low volume. I love this album.
