Lee Westwood is a talented guitarist and composer living in Brighton, UK.
He was one of the “Small Gods” whose music I have posted before.
Here he works with Sama Mara on a vaguely algorithmic sounding set of pieces combining Islamic maths and Western tunings, played on marimba, and oboe, flute, and other such windy instruments, with some cello and percussion too.
I enjoy some of the melodies, but I have always been a sucker for music driven by an overt number-based pattern, and back in the day it is what the first computer-based sequencers were best at.
This is real instruments though, and I think a somewhat low-budget recording, in that I can hear a small and not very well treated room in the sound, which is a shame, but does give it some authenticity I like
Not sure if it will be on any of the streaming services, but if you can find it, I recommend it as a nice piece of “morning music” (the fact that it is 1.30 in the morning makes that fit, right?)
We liked her “Captain Swing” album when it was released, wish we still had a copy
