Revisiting side 2 of this one before I put it back on the shelf. I just dig the sound of this one and you get to hear two of my favorite drummers for Monk each on both sides. Dunlop brings an emphasis on storytelling and drama in the performances, and Riley brings on the swing hard. Not that Dunlop doesn’t swing too in his modernized Jo Jones manner, but Riley just seizes every bit of swing and doesn’t let go.

Cool. With the Sony you can listen to the SACD layer with this adapter board connected to either the PS Audio DirectStream DAC or an I2S compatible DAC of your choice. There is also a PSA forum dedicated to this topic.

Here’s the eBay link :

My problem is Echoes will be missing AGAIN !! Both the original release and the Later Years Boxed has it missing. I remember them opening the show with it. We were sitting next to the Surround P.A. Cabinets in Toronto Sept. '87.

It’s amazing Dan. I had the old CD version and the LP in College/High School. and they either sounded really harsh (CD) or incredibly muddy (LP).

This SACD just like the Axis: SACD of two years were phenomenal remixes/reissues by Bernie Grundman.

Also Eddiie Kramer’s PCM/BluRay remix’s in both 5.1 & 2.0 of Electric Ladyland are incredible as well.

I’m definitely enjoying this set.

Good to know, thanks. I am mainly interested in the mono version on the SACD layer.

Is it true, as has been reported elsewhere, that there is no mono version on the CD layer?

That’s true, the mono is only on the SACD–the combined length of both mixes is longer than the Redbook standard allows.

Was wanting to hear someone cover Monk and remembered the fun first track on this disc.
