I pray that you survive.
A bit of explanation may be in order about my absence from the forum–
About 8 1/2 months ago I suddenly lost all my hearing in my left ear, a condition called SSNHL, (sudden sensorineural hearing loss). Needless to say as one audiophile to any other, I was totally devastated. Music and audio have been obsessive passions of mine since I was 12 yrs. old (I’m currently 62). I’m still struggling on a daily basis to come to terms with never again being able to perceive the soundstage aspects of a recording or all the subtle nuances and details that have thrilled me about listening to great music expertly recorded. I live entirely in a monophonic world now where everything sounds flat, lifeless and harsh.
I’ve, at this point, tried all the standard and non-standard therapies for my condition without any improvement.
It’s still painful walking into my listening room (our family room) where my audio gear is still set up and just as painful seeing the 9,000+ recordings which occupy the shelves in my home office.
Just wanted you all to know that this forum and those fellow music lovers who I interacted with about recordings and gear were rewarding to me and I’ve missed greatly not having anything to contribute here lately.
I’m writing this not for effusions of pity. The elapsing of 8 1/2 months since my hearing issue began have had a tremendously positive effect on my attitude and I now know I can still enjoy life and function well enough with this disablilty to do most everything else I need or want to do.
Thanks especially to Dirk and Chris F.J.
@andolink, I am really sorry to hear about your affliction. It is good that you can think so positively about it, but it must be a life changing event for you. I am particularly sad that monophonic music sounds harsh to you. I do hope that, against the odds, you can recover hearing in your left ear.
Regards
Chris
