What are you spinning now? (Mk 3)

Looks kinda like the Cardas symbol.

Very new on Qobuz. HR. This album was released today. Fretwork. Variations on Taverner’s In Nomine. Seemed ideal for the early coffee listen. I was immediately assaulted by what sounded like Steve Reich at his most obscure. WTF? It turns out that there were two pieces by modern composers and this was by Nico Muhly (the other, by Gavin Bryars, was comfortably in period). Happily the rest of the album featured Ferrabosco, Bull, Purcell et al and conformed to expectations. The sound is good and Fretwork play well, but the album artwork should have had a warning label about that first track!

Sorry about the picture; it was the only one of reasonable size I could find.

Started this one last night. Finishing it this morning. What a life story he has.

Then on to this one. I remember listening to Johnny Cash on WSM late night in the '60’s

Available on Qobuz, HiRes new orchestration of Barcelona album. The original studio version was a terrible recording but I still loved it, however this new version has wonderful rich classical orchestration by the Prague Symphony Orchestra. Freddie and Montserrat are sadly no longer with us, which this excellent quality posthumous redo all the more poignant.
