It was 1983 for me and Rockit was my introduction to Jazz. I had a Monophonic Roland SH1000 and being able to play the lead parts was a huge deal to me at the time.
Say what you will about this CD, but so many of us Teens who absolutely detested the Shyte music of the 80’s got turned onto Jazz, Prog Rock, and even some Classical because what was on the radio just sucked bad.
I agree with you. I do like his music. Mr P wasn’t the most inventive player, but he was dedicated.
“Sultans of Swing” was a cruel track for the Swedish dance bands who had to cover it, because nobody could play the final guitar solo correctly.
Indeed. I also like ‘Five Leaves Left.’ Sadly he was a troubled soul!
Couldn’t agree more. 80s produced some CRAP MUSAK. Button music… Electronic noise assaulting the senses!
Qobuz. CD. I got to this album by a rather roundabout route. The concerti grossi here are ostensibly modeled on Corelli, but I found them very reminiscent of Vivaldi at times. SQ, execution and the compositions themselves are all OK, but nothing to set one’s soul on fire.
Benjamin Taubkin “Trio + 1” --this has been on repeat for a while. I really like Taubkin, and this has the added value of trumpeter Joatan Nascimento. It was featured for a short spell at less than five dollars Prime on amazon, but is still available for a bit more used.
Followed by:
“Sounds of Life” Benjamin Taubkin with the duo of Simone Sou and Guilherme Kastrup. More atmospheric world music than jazz but a fun listen.
