What Are You Spinning Right Now? (Mk. 2)

Scary-good sound on this 2019 Record Store Day limited edition release (10K LPs and 6K CDs) of these classic Grateful Dead live 1980 acoustic sets recorded by legendary recording engineer Betty Cantor Jackson.

Big fan of NHØP with the Oscar Peterson Trio, and stumbled upon this one. Just awesome. Live dates recorded in '99 and '05, just before Pedersen died of a sudden heart attack.

Low on initiative, I searched for other albums by Biondi. Tartini of ‘Devil’s Trill’ fame was the choice (the trill is not among the pieces on the album). Very pleasant, but not exceptional.

The Comet is Coming, “Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery” (2019). Streaming on TIDAL in “Master” quality. From the artist bio on TIDAL:

Identified as Betamax Killer, Danalogue the Conqueror, and King Shabaka — aliases of drummer Maxwell Hallett, keyboardist Dan Leavers, and saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings — the Comet Is Coming describe their sound as “apocalyptic space funk,” consciously and purposefully melding jazz, funk, electronica, psychedelia, hip-hop, and improvisation.

More Italian Baroque. Might appeal to someone who likes flutes more than I do (there were other instruments!). Using it as background music when working, so no deep critical appraisal. OK, I guess.
