What Are You Spinning Right Now? (Mk. 2)

Not something you’ll hear from the golden era of late-50’s early-60’s, but damn this is good.

I know I’ve posted this TW album at least once or twice but trust me you NEED this!

Nothing quite like this on Earth.

Hold On is nice for sure. Have to admit to not always being a fan.

Sometimes I feel like I could record some tunes a la Leonard Cohen or Tom and garner fans.

Gravelly-Voiced, World-weary, grizzly shizz.

But - hey - It is not like falling off a log, for sure.:man_shrugging:t2::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Who gets our human condition better than Tom? I can’t think of another soul on this here planet.

And don’t get me started on Leonard Cohen. Another seriously overlooked master of that art known as music.

Fair amount of Vintage Dr. John and Beefheart “Trout Mask Replica” influence. Just Sayin’.

Not saying that is a bad thing, or judging.

I am digging the record, and not turning it off, after a half hour. Which is saying something : )

Cooking up a Philopino Box Spring Hog!

I started exploring the discography of Monty Alexander as the result of his collaborations with Ernest Ranglin. Can’t say I’m a fan of his experiments with Caribbean instrumentation ( for example, steel drum is a poor substitute for vibes IMHO), but I stumbled across this absolute GEM from 1976 in the process.

An MPS (Black Forest Studio) remastering. Streaming in hi-rez on Qubuz.
The piano is recorded a bit on the “lean” side, but it was a live event, after all.
The trio at the time featured John Clayton on bass, but the track info that came across on Qubuz indicated Eugene Wright (of Dave Brubeck Quartet fame). Can’t say for sure who was plucking the strings, but if you delight in the the Bill Evans / Eddie Gomez kind of dialog, you should check this one out.

Live in Tokyo is also worth a listen.

Julius Hemphill lays it out over an Abdul Wadud vibe with St. Louis’s Human Arts Ensemble.

New on Qobuz. 24/44.1. This ‘album’ has the equivalent of 7 CDs on it. Cera plays Frescobaldi on a variety of different harpsichords and organs. Sound quality and execution good, but there is far too much here for a thumbnail review. By the end I was feeling slightly numb.

Not sure why a band would decide to call itself “Lettuce” (when Googling the band name, you get a lot of irrelevant links), but their new album, “Elevate” is some tasty funk!
